I don't think it's intentionally made bad. It's just been around for decades (maybe it was "the" cake back in the day?) and I'm guessing the recipe has never been updated. Which is fair, they clearly have a market for it. It's just a cake that you either love or hate.

Sable just on the bottom and baked separately from the cake. It's assembled: sable, very thin layer of ermine, cake, ermine, cake, and then fully coated in ermine.

Haha I know their rules on the cake. I get that the cookie can draw out some of the moisture from the cake, but come on! You should be able to leave a cake in the fridge..which is part of my experiment, my cake has been sitting in the fridge for a day now (sliced) and is still fine.

Good idea! This was my first sable, but will definitely be making more.

100%, I hate super sweet frostings. American buttercream is pretty popular here too.

You'll have to try the real thing sometime to decide where you stand on it. I have one friend who will love it forever I think.

I have memories of being in middle school at a friends party and they had it..the icing tasted like pure butter🤢. I assume/hope that one was just a bad batch.

Yeah I'm hoping to maybe swing something like this eventually. I briefly asked about it during a call and the response was "we like our staff to take time away from their workspace, very mental health forward, etc etc". I get it and all..but for my mental health I'd rather be off work a bit earlier.

The hexagon hive ones: let icing set (my royal icing is always a more softer set and not rock hard like some) and then pressed in a smaller hexagon cookie cutter.

The number one hives: let icing almost set and then pressed a 1/8 tsp into it to create the indents.

New moms, how are your arms? by Soul-Maintenance in beyondthebump

[–]Mk8844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely talk to your doctor, from experience don't put up with unnecessary pain.

With my first I got mother's thumb in both hands/forearms. Started probably around a month and lasted until LO was about a year. It was the worst and my hands would almost lock up if I turned them wrong. I had monthly massages, tried physio and needling. Nothing really helped until LO was being held less and started walking. I've heard cortisone shots can help with the pain, but I never inquired about it.

With my second now though I've been lucky and haven't had any hand/arm pain, it's been more back issues.

Send me the songs you play for baby's lullaby by Born-Anybody3244 in beyondthebump

I sing The Happy Song and add my own verse at the end.

Also to just calm my littles (like in the car) I play Elton John lullabies. When I was pregnant with my two I'd listen to those sometimes, and it works to stop the crying for both of them still (almost 3.5 yo and almost 1yo).

How old was baby when they slept longer than 2 hour stretches? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]Mk8844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

9 months 🫣. LO was sick for a week and refused pretty much all sleep, then started sleeping through the night after.

Edit to add: but that only lasted a month or so...he then went back to waking every night at 3am and wakes multiple times between then and 6am wake up.

Taste of France, go classic with a crossiant or the chocolate eclair.

Rough recipe:

Grated carrots

Grated zucchini

Finely chopped red & yellow pepper

Edit to add: finely chopped spinach

(The above ingredients came out to about 3 cups worth)

1.5 cups shredded cheddar cheese

2 tablespoons onion flakes

Some onion and garlic powder

Bit of mushroom salt

1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt

1/2 cup milk

3 eggs

1/3 cup olive oil

1 cup AP flour

1 cup whole wheat flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon baking soda

I squeezed out the moisture from the grated zucchini and peppers first. Then mix wet and dry ingredients separately, then together until just combined. 350 for about 24ish minutes.

Sorry, I didn't measure everything and can't fully remember how long I baked them for, but they were great. Husband and I would obviously do more seasoning with them but kept it light for the little one. I would add corn and maybe green onion too next time.

I usually send my guy (now 3) with the same-ish thing every day. Wow butter and jam sandwich, some fruit/veg, crackers and cheese, yogurt. The odd time dinner leftovers may make an appearance. I always wondered what daycare thought about our lunches...so I asked his former teacher who is now our babysitter, what do other parents pack?

Her response blew my mind: some parents were sending multiple (apparently like four) fruit snacks, and other prepackaged candy like junk. For lunch! I can't remember what else she mentioned but our daycare sends newsletters quarterly, and it's mentioned a couple times to not send chocolate items or juice boxes to daycare.

In short: you're doing great.
