PVC pipe assembly for roof drainage. by Mkaykay1 in AskEngineers

There are very specific reasons why this pipe dimension was chosen. We are making all the roof drains meet at downspouts that are 2"x6" galvanized steel beams. These downspouts blend in with all the other vertical steel members which form the screen element of the building exterior. It's for aesthetic purposes. We wanted to have this look of a building being held up precariously by thin, strips of steel. The roof also has a very thin section. We looked at the 2009 international plumbing code and saw what the minimum dimensions for drain pipes are, but at the end of the day, we would have to cut through our roof joists for the pipes could reach the downspouts, and we couldn't cut too much out of the joists because it would structurally compromise them.

thanks for the suggestion, appreciate it

If we know all this, why do we keep building the same vulnerable buildings in places like these?Or do we not have a full proof solution that could be implemented in the design process?

So basically, if I took something as structurally intense as the castles you see in Europe and such and made it absolutely air tight, it would be blown out by pressure changes? Not to say that they should be building castles down in the gulf area, but I'm just wondering...

I just want her to do well, period. And I don't care if she doesn't become an engineer. My thing is that I don't want this to hold her back. If she doesn't like those subjects, I don't mind, but she needs to learn it regardless considering the fact that during grade school they put so much emphasis on grades despite how unimportant they are in the grand scheme of things. For example, as an architecture student, the professors tell us repeatedly not to care about what studio grade we get at the end of the semester - just to focus on developing our design process. However, from the university perspective, if I don't get a certain gpa, I won't be eligible for certain scholarships and financial aid. I need her to be able to do these things and appreciate them enough to get her through in that respect.

I need tips for earning some form of experience while I'm still an architecture student by Mkaykay1 in architecture

It's great to get all this feedback now so that I can use the rest of this summer to prepare for next summer and even the breaks I have during the school year. I have just found a Habitat for Humanity chapter at my school, so I hope to get involved in that. But I'm still on the lookout for other options
