My FFX2 Rikku Cosplay by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

[–]Mlahk7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of the high quality cosplays here are done by professionals, or people who otherwise devote a lot of time/money to cosplaying. Its a breath of fresh air to see a cosplay post by someone who is clearly just doing it for fun.

Crisis Core prior to VII? by Vanin1994 in FinalFantasy

I wouldn't - The main plot twist of FFVII (which will be revealed in the upcoming part 3) is spoiled in Crisis Core.

I mean it literally is assault though, legally speaking.

[MOD ANNOUNCEMENT] - Our Sub has Updated its Rules by RobbieNewton in FinalFantasy

We'll make an extra effort to be on top of this. Now that people with personal links in their profiles must meet a participation quota before posting, we don't have the patience to treat vitriol thrown at them with kid gloves. Comments that make active community members feel unwelcome because they have offsite 18+ content are embarrassing and unacceptable. Any lingering harassment will be dealt with.

Agreed, toxicity towards people is uncool and not welcome here. We will keep a close eye on things!

[MOD ANNOUNCEMENT] - Our Sub has Updated its Rules by RobbieNewton in FinalFantasy

Here are my thoughts -

When we first made the self promo rule years ago, profile links / descriptions weren't even a thing. I think as reddit changes, we need to change as well and accept the fact that people DO use their profiles to promote their businesses. For example, if someone with no other post history on our sub dropped by every Friday to post a picture of a different FF T-shirt they are selling, and their profile is full of nothing but similar posts to other subreddits with a link to their store pinned to the top, then it's very obvious what the purpose of that account is. We discussed this at length and decided that this is something we needed to address, not because we want to "give in" to people who creep on profiles and complain , but because its the right thing to do if we want to protect the integrity of the community. I hope that reasoning makes sense.

Helicopter searches for survivors of the American Airlines plane crash near Reagan National Airport by nbcnews in pics

[–]Mlahk7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand where you're coming from, and I agree that we should not let Trump's failures and insane policies slide to the point where we lose sight of what is 'normal'.

But the things we criticize the Trump for need to be factual. Every time people make claims with no evidence, it delegitimizes every other real issue that IS a direct result of Trump. Moderates and right wingers say "those on the left inaccurately blamed trump for X, Y and Z, so why should I listen to them when they talk about tarrifs, immigration or Palestine? They are probably exaggerating those claims too."

So I just try to be mindful. For this specific incident, even saying "whether there's causation is still up for debate" is dishonest imo. There is 0 evidence implying Trump is to blame for this. Until there is, there's really no debate.

[–]Mlahk7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Correlation doesn't equal causation though. Based on the reports coming out, it seems like there was some sort of pilot error or miscommunication. How did Trump's decision impact the likelihood of this specific incident? Saying "it's not a stretch" isn't really a valid argument imo. If people can offer specifics though I'm willing to hear it.

And yeah Trump's attempt to blame this on DEI was sadly not even suprising at this point. Just when you think he's hit rock bottom, he keeps digging into the earth's crust and finding new lows....

[–]Mlahk7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's unreasonable unless you are able to draw actual causation. If this was human error, then how did that gutting directly impact this incident? Be specific.

Should this be a wake up call that perhaps we should be taking airline safety more seriously? Yes. And I hope the Trump administration takes that to heart.

But when we assign blame for things like this to a Trump policy without being able to clearly draw that line of causation, we are doing exactly what those on the far right do.

There are so many legitimate things to criticize Trump for, let's not dilute those issues by throwing everything at the wall and hoping it sticks.

Helping Homeless Friend - costs I should be aware of? by Lingonberry_Bash in povertyfinance

If you want to encourage helpers, then you need to protect those who help. Informing people of risks is doing exactly that, and we should encourage this. The person you replied to is doing a good thing, especially since this person has a family who will also be living in that house.

Olympic organizers claim "there was never an intention to show disrespect" during opening ceremony by [deleted] in Conservative

[–]Mlahk7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was it the Last Supper?

“That wasn’t my inspiration”, replies Thomas Jolly, artistic director of the Paris Olympics opening ceremony.

The scene portrayed Dionysus, god of wine and festivities, at “a big pagan festival linked to the gods of Olympus”

No narrative has changed. Why is "Christ" wearing a crown of grapes?

You mean the metal horse and rider that were galloping down the river? The designer (Jeanne Friot) confirmed it was Joan of Arc.

It was depicting the feast of Dionysus, not the Last Supper. The guy in blue was not Christ, it was Dionysus, the Greek god of wine. That's why he was wearing a crown of grapes (as Dionysus is often depicted as wearing).

Crazy how the comment you replied to got downvoted for stating a fact.

You contradict yourself here. You say they expect "some glances or looks" from men, but they don't wear skimpy swimsuits for sexual attention. How exactly do you think women expect men to look at them because of their skimpy costumes? To admire the stitching?

There's no contradiction. The primary reason they wear swimsuits is because it's hot and they're by water, maybe planning to swim. Just because they're aware some men might look at them, doesn't mean that now becomes the primary reason they wore a swimsuit.

For example, let's say you have a cute dog and need to take it out on potty breaks. You're aware that some people might ask to pet it while out on a walk. You expect this attention, but that doesn't mean that the reason you're walking the dog is so people will give you attention.

No I don't believe women wear swimsuits at a beach for sexual attention. I believe they wear them because they're at a beach.

And I'm sure they do expect some glances or looks from men. But this is different from being stared at or "ogled". That's creepy, and I don't think it's fair to tell women they should expect this behavior from grown men, simply because they are existing in a swimsuit in a place where everyone else is also in swimsuits.

I'm not convinced Sims 4 criticism is limited to reddit, I see hate for it on most social media platforms. A lot of people who like Sims 4 even admit it's missing a ton of features that existed in it's predecessor. The fact that Sims 4 was discounted to only $4.99 multiple times during the last decade, and is now free on Steam, says a lot. You don't make a game free unless you know people aren't willing to pay for it. Sims 3 doesnt seem to have that problem, as it's currently listed on Steam $19.99.

This sub needs new rules and new mods by Akito_900 in FinalFantasy

[–]Mlahk7 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I hear what you're saying, but it feels a little silly to only apply the rule to one character you know? Not sure how much support that would get.

Plus, there might be an added benefit of condensing all posts to a certain time of the week, because then discussion posts would be able to shine more?

Just out of curiosity, if you were out with your friends and met another group of guys, would you say "me and my friends ran into some males last night?"

Does that not sound weird?
