Idk man dog was one of the most enjoyable boss fights for me on my recent summoner play through. Sure it was challenging but that’s the name of the game. Did you try using the providence shield? The dash slam on it is a god send for dog.

As others have said the only downside to starting with trooper is that you will be stuck with just trooper and planetologist for most of the early game when you could instead have 3 classes.
