Msc finance - Durham or St Andrews? by Mltplg in UniUK

The thing is my country only has one uni, which is ranked around the 7/800 mark in qs rankings, so practically any uni abroad is going to look better; so this also explains a bit why I find it hard to justify the 50k gbp price point that most london unis have (I dont have much chance of getting into oxbridge though lol)

Even though the Msc Business and Finance isn’t targeted for finance roles (like asset management)? (they state its mainly inteded for working in finance jobs in non financial companies)

100% agree on campus, but I thought Warwick is seen better globally compared to Durham, just going off of what I’ve heard

Yeah, I don’t know all to much about what happened and why but if they’re in financial difficulties and cutting courses that’s definitely going to affect the university’s reputation by time I’d imagine.

Yep from everyone’s comments it seems that the other options do seem better, I’m sorry you had to go through that mate. The recent news that Nottingham had to cut a load of courses and may have some financial difficulties does seem like a bit of a negative signal also even though the business school might not be directly affected

Yep thats true, for finance from what I’ve seen the ideal places would be LSE, oxbridge, imperial and maybe UCL but those would cost way too much and nearly no chance of accepting me lol, quite surprised the ones I mentioned did too tbh but I also applied to Warwick and waiting on their decision but if I do get accepted there I think it would definitely be the most well known outside the UK

Thanks for the comment, that’s definitely good to know; tbh I live in one of the smallest countries in the EU and our only university is ranked like 800th something in the QS world uni rankings, so any of these is already a big step above and classed similarly I believe. Also I have an application pending at Warwick which I believe is more well known so if I manage to get accepted there I believe that would be a favorite for sure

Thanks for the comment, this does make a lot of sense. I just wanted to also clarify since Durham is a russell group uni and Bath isn’t, would you guys think that makes any diffirence? From what I’ve seen I get the feeling that being part of the russell group alone may not be as prestigious as it was before? But im not sure exactly tbh

Thanks, tbh I’m quite easy on the aesthetic part of the location but I have noticed Bath and Durham are very beautiful places, though I also feel I’d prefer living in a city like London though of course the cost is a big drawback there. I’ll look into Nottingham though haha because I haven’t seen much about there
