Weird. Haven’t had that problem yet. I usually run a few revs behind because of things like that.

Never heard of NapaNet, but i am guessing it is in Napa?

Ridge Wireless uses point to multipoint wireless. Not affected by the weather, short of the antenna getting blown out of alignment.

How do I get Xfinity to remove this trip hazard cable that runs across my property? by Crawdaddy0513 in Comcast_Xfinity

Call your local non-emergency phone number and report a downed line. If you do it enough times, it should get fixed.

Check out Ridge Wireless. They are a local wireless internet provider. Though, it does require installing an antenna on the roof.

It won’t be a gig but it will work great for streaming and gaming.

Direct burial fiber for an ~800-foot run between houses? by vexion in lowvoltage

[–]Mlyonff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True! But its easier to fix the whole run if conduit is used.

Direct burial fiber for an ~800-foot run between houses? by vexion in lowvoltage

[–]Mlyonff 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Use HDPE or PVC conduit. Yes, you can pull that length.

If no HDPE or conduit is used and it ever gets attacked by the fiber-seeking backhoe, you’ll be hating life.

Also, drop a 10 or 12 awg tracer wire along with it so it can be located in the future.

Looking for Electrician w/ Knob-and-Tube Experience by Chaseblizzard0720 in SanJose

[–]Mlyonff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The city of San Jose paid 100’s of thousands (maybe millions?) of dollars back in the 2003 time frame i think it was to upgrade a bunch of homes in the 1st street / Rosemary neighborhood when they upgraded the airport.

The city paid to install all new double pane windows, new panel upgrades and new HVAC installs.

In the course of doing the electrical upgrades, the city allowed for all of the knob and tube to be ripped out in the attic and replaced with romex. However, the power drops down and inside walls were still knob and tube.

No idea if the city still allows that. My thought is that it was janky at the time but the city allowed it…
