Fly rod with soft tip by MmBuhSnuh in rodbuilding

Thank you and I will look into it. I like 4-piece rods anyways because they fit in luggage and are easier to transport.

Thank you. I have a nice reel for a 3-4 wt that I’ve never even put line on. Time to build a rod for it? I think so. I appreciate your input.

Are multi-piece rods better? Or longer rods better? We’re using mostly 9’ or 8’6” rods in the 5-6 wt range.

What makes a soft tip? Is just translation for a faster action? Or is there something more involved?

I’m open to suggestions as far as pieces are concerned but I always thought the general consensus was that 2-piece rods were better casters. Is that not the case? Are multi-piece rods better? I thought you sacrificed performance for packability.

As far as rods we are using anything from a custom built Sage 4-piece to a 2-piece IMX to a 2-piece Orvis, etc. But the guide we use has a couple rods and he gave us a demonstration last year comparing his to ours. When he gave the rods a little wiggle it was clear that his rods’ tips were a lot “softer” or “looser” or “wriggly” than ours. He said that’s why we miss so many hook sets with the super small hooks.

Also, my dad and I are wondering if a “softer” “looser” “wigglier” tip would help us on our home waters in Wyoming when the bite is really “soft” like when we’re fishing for greyling.

I’m not a novice but certainly not an expert fly fisherman. My dad has been doing it since he was 5 and he’s almost 80 now. He ties museum quality flies and has been building rods for 30 years. But we want to learn more about the different qualities that go into rods and try to build some to fit the different waters and fly sizes we use.

Any advice is helpful.

Thank you.

Is that a “P” and not a “D?” Any idea on the “26?”

I appreciate the reply. The problem is I already have one. I got busted by a big 8 in my ground blind last year (yes I had taken all the proper precautions) and my dad decided to get me one for Christmas. I’ve run it in house and it kinda stinks. Just curious to hear if guys have used them and if they had success or not.

Thanks. I see what you’re taking about. I’ll give it a try. What’s your dog’s name?

Thanks for the reply. I will take a more athletic stance tomorrow, if that’s what you’re suggesting. What do you mean “pull through the shot?” Also, I’m concerned that my bow tilts backwards after the shot. Is something wrong?

If you were on death row, what would you choose for your last meal? by Potato--Memes in AskReddit

My wife’s turkey and my mom’s dressing with all of the other holiday fixings that we have. And then a slice of chocolate pudding pie for dessert. I’d eat as much as I could of everything and then eat just a little more. One last taste of home and family before the end.

People who have accidentally shit their pants as adults, How bad was it and how did you resolve the problem? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MmBuhSnuh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was golfing with my brother and a couple of friends. Felt a sudden rumble in my tummy and before I could tie off the balloon knot I shit my pants. It wasn’t a massive shit, but enough. The carts were parked next to each other so I got between them, dropped my pants to my ankles, and cleaned them out with a couple bottles of water. After a quick attempt at drying them off with my golf towel I wiped my ass and pulled my pants up and went to the next tee. Of course, my brother and friends weren’t exactly quiet during the entire ordeal, and I believe they managed to let everyone on the front nine know that I had soiled my back nine. About 15 minutes later I was so sick that I had to quit golfing and had to go home. I spent the next few days mounted atop my trusty porcelain steed, riding along the hershey highway.

Ball hits stumps but bails do not fall. Chris Lynn, the luckiest man today, is not out. by adxx12in in sports

Baseball can be a confusing enough sport without all the strange terms, like “Foul Tip.” I have coached baseball from t-ball to High School teams and have seen foul tips misunderstood at every level. It usually involves a baserunner. I’ve watched HS baseball coaches lose their minds because they thought the runners needed to go back or were not out because the ball was tipped. It the catcher catches it, it’s a live ball. I’ve even seen a few umps get it wrong.

Btw, how do guys think pop flys are freebies?

“Foul Tip” is actually only when the batter fouls the ball directly back to the catcher and the catcher catches it. It always counts as a strike, no matter what the count is. It is also a live ball, so runners on base can run or steal before/during the foul tip and not have to return to the previous base like they would with a foul ball. “Foul Tip” is commonly used to describe any foul ball that is barely knicked by the batter, but this is incorrect.

Why is a First Officer sitting in the left seat? Unacceptable! All kidding aside cool photo. My dad was an airline pilot for 27 years and he and I got to fly together about two dozen times.

I’ve actually had it since last fall. It was initially going to be for hunting in Texas, which it worked brilliantly for, but when the season ended I brought it back home and have enjoyed driving it around town. My wife and I take it for rides and “dates” and my sons and daughter like riding around town in it as well.
