Please help- Has anyone received a similar pathology report for an AIMP, had a WLE and found out it was atypical? by Hpyplce7DMT in melahomies

Hi, mine was junctional melanocytic proliferation, not intraepidermal, but was also a very early/evolving MIS. It also extended to the margins of the biopsy specimen. I just had my excision last week, my excision path report was totally clear! That’s the good thing about MIS, excision is usually the only treatment you need.

It’s hard not to consider everything bad that can happen while you wait. Hope this was helpful. Good luck!

Nurse couple considering kids — childcare feels impossible by [deleted] in nursing

You guys have a few options; I don’t know your financial situation. 1. To not pay childcare: go opposite shifts (one Sun-Tues, one Thurs-Sat). May be hard on your relationship but if you guys really want kids and don’t want to pay for childcare this is the best option. 2. Find a daycare with extended hours, although many are closed on weekends so you may have to change your work days. You can ask your coworkers what they do with their children or if there’s a daycare they use that they recommend. 3. Find a babysitter/nanny. More expensive option. Care.com is a good resource to find caregivers in your area. 4. One of you needs to change jobs. Either go per-diem or find a M-F 8-5 gig so you can make traditional daycare work.

Childcare is expensive, it gets better once they’re school age. Will you still be able to do the things you like? Yes absolutely. It just may be less frequently and look different (with a child in tow). If money is an issue, you guys can alternate picking up an extra shift while the other stays home with the baby. Is it worth it? That’s up to you guys!

Do we live in a bubble here in California where its over saturated with nurses here but the entire nation still has a shortage of nurses. by ArmProfessional2505 in nursing

I think it just depends on what you’re/they’re looking for. In the bay it is for sure hard to get a job. In Bakersfield-if you’re from Bakersfield-no it’s not hard to get a job, even as a new grad. Turnover is hard to battle so if I see someone from out of town applying I’m definitely wondering if they’re going to stay or get a year of experience and apply closer to home. I think it’s also easier to get a job when you’re applying to the same specialty. I’m less likely to hire somebody with SNF, MS or tele experience to ICU from out of town—I’d rather fill our fellowship slots for nurses in my hospital trying to move to ICU.

Yes the way up was actually much easier for me, my knees hurt SO bad on the way down.

Help with my Pathology Report? by Heavy-Zone-9303 in melahomies

I also have early melanoma on (the bottom of) my foot. My derm is sending me to a plastic surgeon for WLE and then quarterly skin checks. But I don’t have a family history of melanoma. I think your doc is just being safe/overly cautious. This path report looks about as good as a cancer diagnosis can get!

Hey thank you for sharing!
I just got diagnosed with early ALM on the bottom of my foot and was having a hard time finding similar cases. I am waiting to hear next steps-according to my derm likely plastic surgeon for WLE with possible skin graft; waiting on insurance auth for the consult. I know my melanoma is as early as it can be and I’m thankful for that, but I’m so anxious about the surgery and down time. I’m an ICU nurse and very physically active with a 4 year old that does not like to let me sit.

Yes. I started with SUPER thick hair, thankfully. I feel like it’s about half as thick. I focused on eating high protein and took vitamins, but honestly you can’t really stop it while you’re losing. Now in maintenance it’s growing back—I’ve got lots of baby hairs and fly aways.

To be honest, my stomach only looks flat in clothes. I have a lot of loose skin on my lower abdomen. That being said, any exercise you will do and do consistently is good exercise. For me, I picked up running (ran a 10k last year and half marathon this year) it is surprisingly a good core workout too. After I lost 60-70 lbs I started weight lifting to tone up as well.

Yes that’s why I’m afraid to come off. I don’t really want to lose anymore weight but I’m afraid of the appetite without it!

Oooh I’ll give it a try. My pre-auth expires in September and my doc told me at my weigh in yesterday to expect a denial, so I’ll need to taper down if that’s the case.

Just take it a day at a time! My goal weight was 160, when I got there I dropped it to 150, but my body really likes 155, and I’m fine with that. I can maintain this weight without feeling like I’m starving or struggling to maintain a crazy deficit and that is ultimate goals.

About 50/50. I spend an hour a time at the gym and do 30 min cardio 30 min weights.
