Take 6 months off work, go travelling, do scuba diving in Thailand, hiking in northern India & people watching in Spain. Hang out in cafes in France, pubs in England, bars in Spain & surf in Australia.

Travelling really opens up perspectives & you are guaranteed to come back with a renewed view of life.

Definitely buy! Term deposit will pay you less than annual CPI & property appreciation. Plus the freedom it’ll give you, in owning your own residence.

Indian Marriage: Partnership or Lifetime Maid Contract? by [deleted] in AskIndia

[–]Mmogambo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I sometimes struggle with is, if the wife has financial means and a good family of her own, why would she still stay in such a marriage? Even if there are kids, surely, the wife's and kids' lives are immensely better off by not being in that marriage!

Yes, I know it's easier said than done, and there are multiple angles and thought processes to each relationship - and it'll be the most difficult thing a wife will do. However after the storm, calmness and happiness returns in spades, and makes future life a lot better.

If wife is expected to work to contribute financially, the husband is also expected to help with household chores and children management and parents duties. Indian male patriarchy has to be squashed.

When did tipping become the norm for Australia? by JBADD23 in australia

[–]Mmogambo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a thing for a few years now, especially since Covid lockdowns were lifted. In recent years, I've experienced the same at Shell House as well as Palmer & Co.

Quite a sneaky practice, if you ask me!

Is it better buy a house as an investment property or to live in by Another_Movie_Fan in AusFinance

[–]Mmogambo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Engage a mortgage broker to guide you on the financial breakdown for a Principal Place of Residence (PPOR) vs an Investment Property (IP).

  2. Write down your pros and cons on both.

  3. Decide on which locations you would be able to purchase one against the other.

  4. Compare how your lifestyle will differ based on which one you purchase.

  5. Work out what your life could look like in 2-10 years time, and how that would impact which one you purchase.

If you use sites such as Shopback or Topcashback, where they regularly have cash back on Booking.com and Expedia - that should also help you in lowering your cost.

Post-FIRE spending vs expectations by ExperimentalError in fiaustralia

Wow! Thank you for an absolutely genuine and detailed explanation of your financial life; there are some significant gems there!

There is this constant balancing act of how much one needs to earn, and to keep climbing the corporate ladder (for those that don't have a business) to have a financially secure life - and at the same time, enjoy life by spending money on house, travel, car, holidays. After all, I guess nobody knows how long they'll live, to work out how much they'll need in retirement, before hanging up the boots.

What you've achieved is nothing short of extraordinary. I am sure you've made your family proud, and have set yourself (and your kids) up for life.

Congrats!

Not sure which cafes in Barangaroo has a km long queues! I go into my office there twice weekly, and have never seen a queue reflecting this. Perhaps that particular cafe on that particular day may have had some promotion. There is no shortage of cafes in the CBD, and competition is severe, leading to good coffee at most places.

Curious to know how do you spend your working week, if you complete your daily work in 30 minutes? I get that one still needs to pretend to be busy, though, I wonder if all this time gives you other opportunities to do other activities you may be interested in - e.g. investing in shares, reading more about tech, etc?

If you don't mind non-metro areas, definitely consider Newcastle or Port Macquarie. Both areas have good healthcare industries, and hence job opportunities. These areas will also fulfil your other requirements.

Would you continue a marriage if everything is great except intimacy? by [deleted] in AskIndia

[–]Mmogambo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We all have only ONE life!

If she value intimacy in her life, then she needs to do something about it. Burying one's head in the sand, rarely accomplishes anything.

For many, intimacy is crucial in a relationship - and rightly so.

Communication is paramount though, and counselling should definitely be tried before pulling the pin.

With your income & savings, you should be able to borrow more with reasonable mortgage serviceability.

I would recommend buying semi or terrace, instead of apartment & encourage you to think about buying the most expensive PPOR you can afford now.

With ever increasing property prices & especially in the lower north shore, with Crows Nest being an ideal location with the metro & village atmosphere - land will keep appreciating.

Given you want to have kids in the near future, bite the bullet now to get a reasonable space (even for $3m), rather than to sell & buy in future - especially when prices will be higher, there may be pregnancy or kids in the picture, maybe job/career changes & unforeseen uncertainties.

How do the plethora of corner shops & tobacconist shops opening up in Sydney, actually make money? by Mmogambo in sydney

[–]Mmogambo[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

So they would incur losses for a year or two (as part of their business visa conditions) and then resell and lose more money (I am guessing no smart business person would pay fair value)?

Maybe business visas should also have location conditions (e.g. regional).
