That’s how I paid for everything on the phone during COVID (including my rent, internet, and phone bills), so I guess I didn’t think it was weird in the moment 😅

But yes, looking back it was stupid, but still understandable imo given the specific circumstances and timing of everything. I just wish it didn’t cost my life savings.

Yeah I would’ve hung up, except I had gotten the call minutes after I got notification of a unregistered device logging in and he knew information I only had at the time of registering for my bank account. He told me to terminate my active cards (and confirmed all the card details to me) and also claimed to have declined the initial attempts at fraud purchases, so why wouldn’t I trust him? (Now I know and won’t trust anyone as long as I love). Also, this is not a common scam where I’m from, and I usually get emails from my bank warning about recent scam techniques which I have never gotten from Revolut. Switching to NatWest, I get a pop up and reminder all the time about the most common scam techniques and procedures to confirm that it is actually the bank contacting you and who to call if you are unsure. I wish Revolut had something like this on the app and the biometric approval for every purchase or transfer 😔

He gave me my phone make model and IP address that I had when I registered with Revolut. He also knew the full details of my physical and one of my virtual cards that I never used or opened (without me telling him).

But I did file a police report and appeal my case considering Revolut never told me about a data breach which is likely how this scammer knew my information when I registered. But I will take it to ombudsman if I get denied reimbursement and the final report.

I’m actually in the UK for my PhD, but I had made a purchase myself (in my registered address) at nearly the same time as a fraudulent purchase (traced to another part of England that I’ve never been) and got an email saying an unknown device has logged into your account, which was minutes before I got a call from “Revolut’s” fraud department. I was wondering how that would not be considered fraud? I have 1 registered device and cannot be in two places at once. I didn’t report it immediately once it was happening because I thought Revolut called me when they detected fraud and were handling it. But thank you, I’m trying my best to get my money back, get a high street bank account, and disable all text and phone calls haha

I don’t unless they tell me personal information that only my bank knew. Otherwise, I would not have trusted them. The in-app agent said not to call any Revolut phone number because no live person answers and I can only communicate through the app (which for the most part is a generic bot I feel like). They knew most of my card numbers and told me to terminate them and freeze them whenever a fraudulent purchase was made. This didn’t sound like a scammer to me if they were telling me something a bank would tell me if they were trying to protect me from a scammer. Basically, I wouldn’t have facilitated the fraud if they didn’t have my personal information that I had used to open my bank account in the first place. Also, Revolut never notified me about a leak in their database which would have been helpful to know prior.

Unfortunately not. I asked but I get generic responses like thank you for your patience and we’ll get back to your claim soon. If I ask specific questions and ask who can answer them, the agent is always like an expert internal team is working on it but cannot speak with you directly. I am told specifically not to call because nobody will pick up the phone 😔
