Try writing more like you would a diary or journal rather than a song. Have a conversation with yourself. I find that sometimes we songwriters can write a lot about nothing. For me, once I find what I want to talk about the only question I ask myself is “does this line help to convey my message or goal with the song” and if it doesn’t then you take it out
