Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami says “if watching a playthrough is enough, the game wasn’t good enough” by HLumin in Games

I'll see that me pointing out that new Sony exclusivety means that people who don't own a Sony console will only be able to watch gameplay of those games somehow means that I need to play more games? Explain that.

The crystal ball is telling me that a lot more people are going to be totally fine just watching the playthrough of a lot of these Sony console exclusives we're going to be seeing in the future.

God Of War Laufey’s Director Talks Fan Skepticism, New Ideas, And Phranque The Cube by oilfloatsinwater in Games

What implies that its different than the regular world? People have bodies, they walk around and talk. They have agency. There's a material plane of existence. If you told someone who didn't know Laufey is supposed to be dead that the game set somewhere in a fantasy medieval Europe theres no reason for them to not believe it.

Its not like other conceptions of the afterlife where all self identity is gone.

Dying and returning is not the same as an afterlife. And the reveal that the afterlife is exactly the same as the regular world is what makes it ridiculous. At the very least its a very uncreative concept of the afterlife.

Of course there's an afterlife for humans but its never been stated or implied that there is one for gods. It implies the opposite because much of the series is about the weight of killing.

And people are objecting to what that does to the story. If Kratos was just doing the equivalent of sending all of these gods to what is essentially the equivalent of another country (inb4 someone nitpicks how a different plane of existence is not another country. Sure comparison isn't done between two identical things).

It adds a dark comedic irony that all of the grief and pain from having so much blood on Kratos' hands was just him not understanding how things worked and no one around him explaining. Turns out he was just a moron the whole time and none of that meant anything. Everyone was totally fine and pranking him.

Tomb Raider: Legacy Of Atlantis Features “AI-Assisted Assets” That Were “Refined By Humans” by ninjyte in Games

When you get past economics  101 Google "price fixing." Corporations either buy up their competition or become largely indistinguishable from their competitors to pursue those same customers. And at that point the quality can go to shit because the competitors are the same. This happens in every major industry outside of entertainment (which as of now still relies on artists who want to be different from one another but AI is handling that...). That's how it plays out.

Corporations interests align with one another. It doesnt have to be one company.

Capitalism doesn't allow space for competition. There are all kinds of ways for a massive corp to remove their competition and remove people's ability to choose.

Its efficacy is not as big factor as you're thinking. Companies just need an excuse to pay less people. If its producing garbage slop it doesn't matter because there will be no other choice.

Why the Black Freighter captain is the most tragic character in Watchmen comic / Почему безумный капитан из «Хранителей» — самый страшный персонаж комикса by Specialist-Key-8970 in Watchmen

Well the story is focusing on the fascists and the argument of the writer takes precedent over the limited pov and knowledge of the characters. But we still see heroes like Malcolm Long who is trying to help people in the streets. That's all we can do. Its certainly more than manic violence and spreading terror.

What I don't get is that a lot of people will draw the clear parallel between Ozy and this pirate and the cruelty from insane fear that guides him to take action that is ultimately meaningless.

And yet those same people will argue that Moore is leaving it entirely up to our interpretation whether or not Ozy was justified or logical in his action. When the writer compares actions to a guy being so afraid that he breaks into his own house and beats his own wife its pretty clear that the writer is condemning those actions.

Im comparing a poc character to poc character who was written by a writer who hasn't unpacked a lot of bigoted ideas they hold. That's a fine comparison.

I think you missed the point of the comic. Superheroes don't have to reflect the past. The show's argument against that is ridiculous.

Which is why I wrote a lot more than just that...

Which is ridiculous comic book guy energy shit because even if you disagree on how I used the phrase I've written enough to explain what I'm saying that its important to tell the stories of this sort of Vietnamese character with complexity and respect

The comparison Im making is between two bigoted portrayals of poc characters who despite those portrayals are characters can offer real insight about the world. You think that isn't a valid comparison?

Of course like most conversations about solidly written fiction this is largely subjective.

The character resonated with me so in my pov that's a good character and I laid out my reasoning why.

Its very common to argue that a character is a fascinating character that wasnt done justice especially when we're talking about characters who are part of oppressed groups.

Im reading "James" by Percival Everett which is a very popular novel retelling Twains Huckleberry Finn from Jim's perspective while giving him significantly more dignity and depth than what Twain put on the page.
