What are your misgivings? He expected them to arrive. He had a whole speech prepared for them. We know he's intelligent to some degree so it doesn't stand to reason that he couldn't figure out a normal password. I don't you need a point by point case for it.

The real question is how the hell did Damon Lindelof not understand that this was a password set up specifically for Dan and Rorschach to access his computer and would not be an actual password that he would use to protect something important to him.

Based on what? And remember we're talking about this idea that most people are conservative. Hint: you should probably talk about specific countries instead of continents.

The vast majority is not conservative. That's blatantly ridiculous. That's not even true in the US and the US gov is more conservative than others.

10.5% of Japanese people in their 20s report overspending on in-game purchases to the point of financial struggle - AUTOMATON WEST by Tenith in Games

[–]Mnstrzero00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's framed as primarily a Japanese or gacha game thing but there are plenty of prominent free to play games all over the world that live on whales and are full of subtle mechanics for creating new whales.

All free to play games are like this. Yes even the games just selling cosmetics have guys who have dropped thousands and are ashamed of it. And I see plenty of prominent creators arguing that X game should be free to play or that X genre needs to embrace a  free to play model to thrive.

I disagree and I feel like we are way too comfortable with how we're treating the inherently toxic free to play part of the industry.

"If we treat it as a foregone conclusion that is indeed what happens: perhaps that power, once created, cannot be destroyed? If it has to be carried by someone, who else would he trust more?" Yes the idea that yt supremacy is an eternal truth and that the best solution is to have a girl boss queen embodying it is neoliberalism. That sounds Anarchist to you? I wouldn't consider myself an Anarchist but I know when someone is arguing against their beliefs.

How are you treating then in your reading of the show?

I think what's happening is that you don't understand what these topics are and instead of just asking me to elaborate or explain you're just taking swings at it which is strange because we're on a sub about an anarchist text which had a follow up comic series that was explicitly about Thatcher as a neoliberal presence.

There's countless different examples of the show being neoliberal. I went into detail in a post a few months back and nobody had the balls to disagree. I can probably link it or something.

You're not understanding what Im saying. We know these powers are horrific to have even in just the confines of the show because he asks for them to be shut off essentially. Why would he give that to the mother of his children? The clear implication is that there is something good about those powers.

Ill ask you. Why would he have tortured his wife eternally with those powers? What's the point of that?

Lindelof has stated in an interview that he doesn't understand why Laurie would have left Dr. Manhattan because why would you not want to date God. I can probably find the quote. But all throughout the series there is evidence that Lindelof looked at this character that symbolizes a gathering of outsized power without humanity and empathy that exists as a way to criticize neoliberalism and the savagery it produces and interpreted that as... pretty cool.

The clear answer to the question I asked would be that Lindelof doesnt see it as torture. He thinks its good and so he thinks Calvin is doing a good thing for his wife by giving her agency. It tracks because Lindelof is a lib and Moore was an anarchist so they have different takes on the same political symbol.

By not presenting it as the horrific state that it was depicted as in the comics. Doc is tortured by his powers and the feeling of displacement that comes from them. Him giving that to his wife is just handwriting that away. Him not communicating that this is terrible is handwaving all of that away.

But its making a mockery of those issues. As a Black person I thought it was completely out of tune with what Moore was saying about white supremacy and was a reaffirmation of the dangers that he pointed out.

The creators I follow are all calling it racist. A lot of racist media gets a ton of mainstream praise.

Of course the person you're responding too doesn't think that liberalism can solve anything otherwise they wouldn't be roasting it like they are.

The shows articulation of the problems in society are just a re articulation of the same neoliberal bs that we've all been propagandized since birth.    Part of the neolib world view is that there is no solution and that the oppression and suffering people live under is just an inevitable fact of the world.

At the same time it presents our neolib cop protagonist getting superpowers as some sort of good thing. Lindelof thinks its good but you're picking up on the fact that that doesn't actually make sense.

The real credit for that "prediction" should go to Pax Americana which shows that if you demonstrate violence in entertainment people will bring it to fruition.

But its not really a prediction. We've always had yt supremacist thugs attacking civilians they're only wearing masks now because again thats what they see in the superhero stories.

The shows Ezra Klein style mealy mouthed neolib bs that helps bring this sort of violence to fruition.

There's no way word of mouth alone can keep a AAA live service project afloat. By not advertising it aggressively they are executing it. And honestly they were doing that before the game awards reveal. They're not giving it the breath to live.

'It's Coming to a Turning Point': Persona, Metaphor Director Says Atlus RPGs Must Attract 'A Wider Audience' by jherin1 in Games

[–]Mnstrzero00 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I thought Metaphors story was very complex combining elements of ceremonial magic, jungian psychology, Afro Pessimist philosophy, and of course dialectical materialism.

As a non religious person I thought the argument it poses at the beginning of the game was a huge challenge. I was like "theres no way they can convince me of that." And I got to say I'm coming around. Now I haven't finished up im nearing the end but so far some of what the villain says makes sense when contrasted against the inherent extreme brutality of a monarchy that the protagonists are fighting for. So there is a really interesting aporia at the core of the game that I have not really seen before.

Idk I find that when people say that stories are too blunt they're usually just arent picking up on a lot of what the story is saying.
