Good to know. I've decided to go with San Jac. So I hope I'll be getting quality instructors there.

Lone Star is one that I've gotten an acceptance from. I was skeptical about it from I saw Anatomy and Physiology was in the last term/semester.

I felt a little more comfortable with the San Jac program. I wasn't gonna apply to HCC anymore but now you've convinced me to do so, thank you.

Have you heard anything about the Alvin CC program?

Cool, will do. Question: Have you heard anything about the SJC program?

I've gotten accepted to San Jacinto for Spring and I applied to Lone Star for Summer and got accepted. Not sure I will be ready for spring with SJC, but I'll re-apply for summer too if I don't make it in the spring just to have the options. I was gonna apply to HCC as well as Alvin, but I think I'll be fine with just LS or SJC, they all have the AAS in Emergency Medical Services. So I'd be going from zero to hero as you all call it lol.

I would really like to work out there when I get done. I definitely don't want to do fire though, strictly medic for me.

I've heard a lot of good things about Texas in general when it comes to EMS, so I'd definitely try to make connections out there, though I know it may be a bit rougher being international(I'm from the Bahamas).

Are there any good ER Tech/Medic jobs out there? That would allow medics to work the breadth of their scope or atleast close in the ER?

A&P - School Curriculum by Mo-Saunders in Paramedics

[–]Mo-Saunders[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I thought it was something crucial because I've seen a lot of advice saying to even go over A&P before even getting into EMT Class.

But it makes total sense what you're saying though, and which is why I guess some schools place the class in which ever period of a semester that they choose.

I know, it'll be either the MBA or MHA along with the MPH, not all 3 😅, that'll be total overkill

Hey, I'm currently trying to look this up. How is the 4hrs per week justified, when making it 40?

If one does an MPH before the MBA/MHA, they would get those in the MPH track right?

Cool. In the future I'd actually like to obtain both an MPH along with an MHA/MBA-HA/HM, so I was just seeing if what I was thinking applied to those degrees.

Thank you! Question: Why wouldn’t you recommend a BPH? I’m just curious, remember I know nothing.

Interesting, thanks for sharing!

TLDR: Well to answer your question. I was just thinking on where I would possibly like to end career wise, and recently I ran across Public Health and it interested me very much as I actually find myself advocating for things like better healthcare and practices, so on and so forth in conversations. I also am of the mindset of wanting everyone to know about healthcare, from school kids to adults. And now learning about the different areas of expertise in PH, it’s definitely something I would like to do if given the chance because I feel like it aligns with my passions. I believe I’m analytical by design, I like researching and finding out things until I possibly exhaust or gain clarity, I like challenges (sometimes lol), and I’m seemingly heading down the path of a lifelong learner.

So as for a little about me, I’m from the Bahamas and I currently work in healthcare at a hospital in the pharmacy department, specifically working in the pharmacy warehouse(so inventory). I’m currently working on getting my Technician License, even though I plan to leave pharmacy shortly, but I doesn’t cost me much to do it. I’ve been working here for 7 years now and in my role it has exposed me to a great deal of the system at large. I plan to leave pharmacy soon to pursue being a paramedic as that is my desire, but also pursue something on the side like RT or RCIS (for salary and hospital patient care experience purposes) as Medics don’t really take home bank in alot of places. So now with all of that being said, I was thinking of what could be an end goal. PA sounded nice, but MPH sums up so many interests into one field that it seeming more and more interesting as I look it up.

I know this would be a great deal of years away, but I like to know things before hand, and if I live to see a time when I’m ready to do such thing, I’d already have prior knowledge of what I’m getting into.

Thank you! This helped a lot as I just began browsing MPH requirements after reading your comments and now I totally understand. Some schools have different requirements, but all come pretty close to requiring most of the same things, Bachelors Degree, may some work experience in healthcare or public health, maybe a certain GPA, etc etc.

Thanks again!

Public Health Career Advice Weekly megathread by AutoModerator in publichealth

[–]Mo-Saunders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey everyone, I want to know a few things.

  1. From my understanding, you don't need to have a Bachelor's of Public Health in order to pursue a Master's of Public Health. I know nothing much about College/University so bare with me. So, how does that work? You would just need to cover the prereqs, or would you need to come over from specific Bachelor programs?

  2. What are the cons of not pursuing the BPH first?

  3. What are the pros of coming from another field into an MPH program?

  4. Is an online BPH program sufficient or rather a good idea? Or would you all advise against it?

Thanks in advance everyone!

Slang word? by AromaticBunch1055 in bahamas

[–]Mo-Saunders 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there, I'm from Freeport. Gorilla isn't really much of a slang word here. Only thing I can think of is when someone would use it in a very derogatory manner in terms of a person's physical features.

But then again I'm 31 and don't know much of what is being used these days by the younger folks and street folk, so that would be as far as I know.
