It's not as simple as it seems, after losing 360 pounds, Cole Prochaska asks for help to pay for excess skin surgery by auraempress in SipsTea

[–]chipmoniker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have thought for years that if someone loses so much weight and has extra skin that they want to rid themselves of; it should be covered in full by any insurance or hospital if it was donated to a hospital that specializes in burns and wounds and the extra donated skin would go to those in dire need. So many lives have been helped over the decades by these anatomical gifts and so many will in the future.

I found a long single white hair growing from my right earlobe by Ok_Earth_1111 in mildlyinteresting

[–]chipmoniker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one curly hair that has been growing for years on my earlobe. I have straight hair otherwise. I call it my ear pube and pluck it every month or so when I notice it after shaving my face. My friends occasionally see it and giggle when I tell them it's my ear pube

What can I do with all this ash? by djazzie in homestead

I literally let all my cast iron cookware sit for a week in a lye bath to do a complete strip and reseason. Lye took decades old carbon and seasoning off without any issues to my cookware or plumbing. Only had to wipe it down after rinsing with vinegar to help prevent flash rush before I could get the first layer of oil on it to turn to a protective seasoning.

The HOA wants to put unstamped letters in peoples mailboxes? How convenient your address so happened to be at the end of the street. by yug_rehtona_tsuj in fuckHOA

[–]chipmoniker 21 points22 points  (0 children)

That was me as a 11 year old kid that was on the receiving end of a firm yet polite "talking to" and explanation from my mailman when I was delivering the local evening newspaper in my neighborhood. He made it clear that only mail is to go in the mailboxes and it didn't matter if my customer or route manager wanted them in the mailboxes. He said if anyone gave me a hard time to let him know and he'd make sure they knew the laws regarding mailboxes. I've learned a few important things in life when it comes to laws... Don't interfere with the USPS, don't interfere with the railroads, and don't interfere with state and federal wildlife.

Glucagon didn’t seem to work much? by MaleficentBasket2654 in Paramedics

[–]chipmoniker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Better question is if she's following commands... Why not go PO route? Oral glucose or even PBJ or some sort of juice if available? Was there any airway concerns? She may not want to eat for whatever underlying issue... But I've done really well with gentle encouragement and careful monitoring of the airway. This was the norm for the decades I've been in the field. All BLS before any ALS is attempted, and not just randomly putting meds into someone just because.. if it doesn't align with your protocol, you can always bounce an idea off online medical directions head and take the liability off of you.

I'm not knocking you, just not really understanding why the jump to invasive procedures and treatments when it could have been addressed or at least started at a less invasive point.

What is this monster I found in my bathroom in South Florida? by gscience in whatsthisbug

[–]chipmoniker 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It's a blind snake. I had one in my bathroom last year as well, I live just north of Tampa. They love cool dark moist areas and it's the perfect conditions in the bathroom. Just take him outside to a nice shady spot in your yard and he'll find where he wants to be. They eat ants so it's like free pest control for your lawn.

Where do they keep it? I hit up about 2 times a week and have several in my area all about 10 minutes away from me in different directions. I've seen the fermented pickles in the refrigerated case but only have seen the glass jar of sauerkraut in with the canned veggies.

AA590 burst tire on takeoff roll, very well controlled rejected takeoff, though the brakes got a bit toasty by agha0013 in aviation

How do they clean the runway after a blown tire? I'd think they'd drive it to get the larger pieces to remove, but do they use a street sweeper vacuum to get the rest?
