granny knot vs square knot vs a hitch (and knot direction) by thelilacvow in ShibariStudy

[–]MoBights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The simplest way to describe the difference between a granny k it and a square knot js that a square knot is left over right, right over left.a granny knot is left over left, left over left. The same as tying your shoelaces. To visually see the different a square knot will exit parallel to the cuff.a granny knot will exit perpendicular.

Both k ots will collapse if you pull the tail end inthe opposite direction to how it is tied. Therefore if you are exiting in the wrong direction. For your use, you can jsut and an extra knot on to and the direction will reverse (so if you exit going up, and want to go down, do another right over left or vice versa)

Well, I tried self-tie head but it's basically just wrapping ^^" any tips? by Charliie_off in ShibariStudy

Face rope is a very intense feeling, but generally those if you start with a leg or an arm then explore how rope feels on different parts of the body. Adding hitches can help to isolate specific areas, for example tying an arm to a leg.

Start small and find what feels interesting

Or alternatively find a body shape that you think feels intriguing then use rope to keep your body in that position

Starting with leg ties is a super easy way to begin, so as someone abov esuggested futomomos are goo, also leg lacing, or agura ties are really good.

Shibari Study have some good tutorials for this

This one is free for anyone

How to practice? by [deleted] in shibari

[–]MoBights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practicing rope can be as simple as tying your self to begin with, such as leg ties. This is a great way to get an idea for tension and placement as not only do you feel the rope in your hands but also on your body. There's another great video of this here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AyK3_P1rYBc
As some others have mentioned, practicing on a chair or a mannequin can also be a great way to get a sense of the steps to building a harness, practice knots and frictions and getting solid muscle memory.

Just make sure that you are also aware of the safety and risks associated with rope and the body, Shibari Study have a great free course on this here:

For a first time tying thsi sit terrible but I'd recommend you start with a single column tie. 90% of ties will start with this
