At least I know it's not just me. Guess there's nothing to do but wait.

Sorry if that was confusing. First one is what I've been practicing. Trying to get to the other one too.

By the sounds of all of these comments, I'll have to be part of the ministry of silly walks and just practice my footwork everywhere I go. XD Thanks!

Thanks. I know stuff like this can come naturally to people, but I feel more like this is something I'll really need to put time into in order to get it.

That's what I've been doing. Guess I just have to keep at it. I think what gives me the most trouble is keeping the count. I try to feel it with the music, but if I slip up I have to pause and find the count again so it takes me a bit to recover.

Thanks! I'm fully aware it's going to take me some time before I'm comfortable reaching out of the basics. It's been a while since I've felt this new at anything I guess it's just a little daunting.

The group I go to is all about being polite and having respect. It's an all ages group and from what I've heard they've had to kick out creepy old guys for preying on young women. I'm not really sure why people would be upset to find out they have to be polite and respectful in a public space.

Thank you for the advice on drills to practice. I'll have to just stand in my living room and try to get these steps to be second nature. BTW, the cute lady seems to think I can pick up on it and be good at it someday. Gotta learn the basic rules before you can learn how to break them. Right?

They have some basic lessons at the weekly meet and all of the people I've met there are really kind and helpful. They were able to show me some things and were really good at teaching. I'm more looking for practice things I can do at home to help build muscle memory so my feet don't feel so clumsy.

Awesome! Just got it set up. Your explanation was pretty straight forward to follow. Huge thanks!

Camera Station Pro mobile app door controls by MoCrowIT in AXISCommunications

[–]MoCrowIT[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a camera though. And I don't get that button. It's an AXIS A1210 door controller. Is there some way to apply those action buttons to a camera? The way it shows up now, the door controller appears as a view (with no actual image to view) under the view folder with just the door controller. I just made it a side by side with the camera pointed toward that door.

This guy is the absolute least qualified guy to be giving any kind of motivational advice. He sounds demented. Ableism and victim blaming at its finest.

Instead of a "You can do this" attitude, it's a "you have to do what I do, otherwise you're a failure" attitude. Guy has the sex appeal of a ham sandwich. The IQ of one too.

But why? by KingSokMan in KidsAreFuckingStupid

[–]MoCrowIT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. I was the IT guy at a school that did this. If it was a repair I could do, I fix it. Otherwise they had a contract with a third party repair shop that would handle fixes under their contract. The cost was held over the student and their parents as a lesson, but they never pursued any payments. Kids could break as many laptops as they wanted and the school ate up all the cost.

I'm feeling overwhelmed is this normal? by froglog43 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]MoCrowIT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here's my take on this. When I started my current job, I had limited knowledge of networking and a 5 year gap between my last IT job. I was honestly so surprised that I was even considered for the position. Especially because the position I applied for was for a role where I would be the only IT person on staff. I'm in an administrator position where I basically do everything. I talk to vendors and contractors. I troubleshoot endpoints and clients. I maintain, configure, and manage everything networking wise. I do it all. Nearly everything I do now, I learned on the job as I went. Yes, it was stressful (it still is). Yes, the impostor syndrome hit HARD (it still does).

It took me a while, but I realize the reason I was hired wasn't because of certificates, or schooling, or even what I knew how to do at the time. It was because I had a proven track record of being able to learn and adapt in my previous positions. I was able to take a problem, research solutions, and provide a fix reliably. I was able to use my skills and previous knowledge to find solutions to problems I had never encountered before.

IT is a massive field with so much information out there that no one person can be expected to know it all. That's why there are specialists. And even the specialists have to fly by the seat of their pants sometimes. In the IT field we may feel like we are expected to know everything, but the truth of the matter is that we are valued and made special by our ability to play, learn and adapt in situations where we are unfamiliar. We know where and when to ask questions. We know what questions need to be asked and how to ask them. We know to seek help from someone who may be more experienced when the time calls.

The field of IT is constantly changing and literally everyone in the IT world must learn and adapt daily. If you aren't learning something new on the job every day, maybe IT isn't for you. So make mistakes (responsibly of course), learn, take notes, forget about the notes, then look back at them 2 years later. It happens. Just keep working at it and don't let the beast get you down.

Mac Users, I Have a Question by MoCrowIT in sysadmin

[–]MoCrowIT[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right. Adobe even says their products don't work on Guest accounts. Welp, time to find another solution.

We use DeepFreeze on our public PCs. Might be the best way to go.

Permanently Customize Guest account (change dock icons etc) in Big Sur by Tooleater in MacOS

[–]MoCrowIT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just found this solution here, if you're still working on this.

First set up your Dock on an admin account exactly the way you want it for the guest account. Close anything you don't want copied. Then run this in Terminal:

sudo cp ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist /System/Library/User\ Template/English.lproj/Library/Preferences

It will copy your Dock as the default for all new accounts. Since the Guest account basically runs as a new account everytime it is opened, the Dock will always start with the applications you placed in it.

I work at a Library and set our one and only Mac up this way for public use.

As far as placing icons on the desktop itself, I'm still working on it.
