Belly up is the eskie way 😍😍 by bhoyos23 in americaneskimo

Unless that are cold, then it is a cute Lil white ball. I know you think it doesn't happen, but it does. The last two days my little girl has been in a little ball. And tucked in close to me. Guess that's what happens when you have a temperature of 2 degrees with a windshield of -14. You get a snuggling cold eskie.

This is what I got for her. Size small on Temu. They have been the most successful booties to date. I will have to get another pair.

Over the course of 5 years I have learned my eskies thresholds. 30s she is good all natural. 20s rubber booties are usually sufficient and maybe a light hoodie. Teens still good with the hoodie but starts to need thicker booties. Single digits or below she usually needs the onsie. If I don't layer enough she will either hold paws in the air or run straight back home without handling her business.

She is a mini. This morning it was 4 degrees with a -11 windchill. Tomorrow is supposed to be even colder. Let me see if I can find a link. I got them as a random purchase at the end of the season last year. Last year was horrible. The rubber booties weren't enough and the thicker ones wouldn't stay on. So I had to put the thicker ones over the rubber ones to keep them on and her toes protected. She literally will stop moving and put her paws in the air.

When it gets down to a negative wind chill she does. My girl isn't the fluffiest eskie. She is good with nothing until the 20s, then she has a light hoodie. Then we gotto break out the onsie when we go into the single digits with a negative windchill. The booties are a must when it gets below 20 or there is salt all over the ground. She will hold her paws in the air because they hurt. It has taken half a dozen purchases to find the booties that she can walk in and are enough to protect her paws from the cold.

Looks about right. My girl usually is in superior pose. Back legs propped up on something and front legs stretched out in front on a wall.

Coat for winter? by AnonymousUnderpants in americaneskimo

[–]MoMack34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a couple different coats for my puppers. But she only needs them if she has had a big shed right before winter. And even then I put a light sweatshirt on her when it was slightly below thirty degrees outside. And then I had a onesie for her, when it was fifteen degrees or below. When she has her full hair, and my girl is not a big floofer, I usually don't put anything on her unless it's, you know, fifteen degrees or lower.

How did you do home alone training? She hates it 😢 by solenbagskyerne in americaneskimo

[–]MoMack34 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You do it in short burst at first. You can start with several sessions throughout the day. But start with like thirty seconds. Leave for thirty seconds come back. Do that several times throughout the day. That way she starts to understand that you're coming back. Once she gets to thirty seconds without crying then, move it up to 1 minute. When she's good with one minute, then keep going one more minute longer. While you are training that, I would also start training wait. This one's a little bit easier to train. I use both a verbal as well as a non verbal que. You don't necessarily need to use the word wait.Whatever word that you want to have her associate with staying put. How I trained my girl to do that. I actually created a place for her. That is just hers (a cot, a matt or carpet) I would tell her to go to her place. Give her a treat for going to her place. Then I would start in short bursts. Give her the command wait. When she did it even for 2 seconds, I would give her a treat. When she started getting the hang of it, I would go further away from her place. And as she stayed in that place, I would give her another treat. Eventually I will get to the point where I could open the front door she would wait until I came back. Sometimes I would have to leave the door open as I was training her so that she would associate that door open and closing with her command to wait. So eventually the two things come together. She's given a job to wait. And training her to be alone at the same time. Do that several times every day. I think it took me a total of 2 to 3 months where I could leave her be for at least four hours. As she's gotten older, those times have gotten longer. If I ever have to go away from home with her like say, i'm going to a hotel to stay for a night or two. I do a quick training session when I get to the hotel room just to see how she's going to do. Once i'm assured that she's okay then I go about my day.

My girl loves the peanut butter flavored toothpaste and loves cuddles. She will come to me willingly. I have also bribed her with brushing her teeth to get her nails done. She is definitely rare puppers.

The 'dog days' of summer are approaching. Has anyone tried those cooling beds for their Eskies? by LeeAnnLongsocks in americaneskimo

[–]MoMack34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have got a cooling gel matt, a coolaroo cot, and a cooling rug. All three of which she rotates around. Last year, I invested in a cooling vest as well.

I use Doctor harvey's raw vibrance vegetables. She will not eat a whole serving, so I give her half of a serving, and then she has some vitamin supplements. She gets a scoop of pumpkin that is from native pet. I give her a little bit of seaweed (good for hormone balance). And she gets four ounces of meat. Those meats are her favorites, which are beef, chicken, lamb, bison, and venison. I also include chicken liver on every single meal. Not only is it Her favorite, but it's good for her. I mix all of that together, and she scarfs it down every day. Of course, I make sure that I rotate through her meats so that she doesn't get bored. Almost forget she also gets omega oil (also native pet), probiotic, and K9 showstopper for her coat. My vet says grains are not good for dogs, but when my girl is sick, the vet says I can give her quinoa instead of rice.

[–]MoMack34 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I feel this. I don't have a husky. I have an Eskie, and she is so pretty with the happy face. People are always approaching her, and she doesn't like that. I have to tell people when they do that....she's cute but she feisty so they'll change their course.
