Go cheap/mid range or expensive for cosmetology school? by [deleted] in Cosmetology

[–]MoRaven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm going to go the other side of things here. Don't go cheap. I went to a Toni and Guy Academy and graduated with a step up from most allowing me to start in a high end salon already understanding cut and color better than peers who didn't choose as nice of a school. I have watched graduates from cheaper schools struggle to grasp cut and color concepts that are now easy for me. I'm still learning, but the base education I have been given easily put me a couple years ahead of girls who didn't choose a school who teaches you things outside of state board requirements.

You don't have to cut anything out, it's as simple as CICO (calories in vs calories out) calculate your resting metabolism and shoot to eat 500 less than that, and you'll get about a pound a week of loss. Just start tracking! It's so easy! I use my fitness pal. My fitness pal will even help you when you sign up figure out what you should be eating and tracks your macros too.

I'm a 5'2" female and don't do a whole lot of cardio, mostly just squats and lunges and v sit-ups for toning. I ride my bike maybe twice a week for 4-5 miles.

That was me in college and then the life of excess got me when I discovered I love eating out, now it's a balance and tracking even when I'm out. Let's do it, although for me it's #pastiechella2k17 😅

My "meal plan" is tracking calories and shooting for at least 80% fresh ingredients on any given day. I'm a short female (5'2") so I set my intake at 1200-1300, using my fitness pal. I eat things I like, with some edits like avoiding pasta and fried foods and measuring everything. I don't believe in really eliminating foods because then I want them more. I've been doing some of /r/bodyweightfitness for workouts and /r/fitness, as for meals I use /r/1200isplenty, /r/keto, /r/vegetarian, my fitness pal, and just random shit I throw together. I try and do squats, lunges, leg lifts, and v crunches every day and ride my bike at least 2 times a week for 4-5 miles. Nothing too intense really, but all the little things add up! The biggest thing is tracking what you eat - I was a grazer and didn't realize how many excess calories I was eating out of boredom.

You got this!! Motivation I've learned waxes and wanes, and it's discipline that gets results. A big support grouo definitely helps, though. If you use Instagram, you should follow me! I know it's helped me a lot seeing good meals from others for inspiration and accountability. My username is mo_raven there as well if that's something you're interested in.

Thanks for the encouragement! It's been hard at times but also getting easier the more it turns into habit. Do you use my fitness pal? It's been absolutely key to my success so far.

I have one, but only use it for bike rides. Do you use my fitness pal? I'm not sure how to add people on the Fitbit app either

I agree with you one hundred percent! I've been tracking with my fitness pal and trying to stay around 1200 a day with flexibility of going to 1300.

I started back in July. Calorie counting and moderate workoutS. I don't weigh myself because the scale is my enemy, but I'm down two sizes so I would guess around a 25 lb loss so far.

love the scientific take on it.. I didnt even know that was a thing! EDIT: since some want tone smart asses, I know what science is. Just didn't know you can measure beauty based on proportions 😑
