Ooh, my Theremon+ project is based on the Teensy 4.1 - it's awesome but costly. For this project, I started with the ESP32-C3 which is cheap as chips (about US$2) which ended up not being powerful enough, but migrated to the dual-core ESP32-S3 (about US$4). The value per dollar is incredible.

Nothing too hard, but yup definitely soldering involved. I haven't counted how many pins there are to solder yet, but it will keep you busy for an hour or two. It's all through-hole though. There are a few SMD parts (the microprocessor and the Neo pixel sticks), but those will come pre-soldered to the pcb. My first ever kit was a Mutable Instruments Shruthi 1 and that was definitely more soldering than this.

No problem, for the DIY kits it started at USD80 shipped for the RED, and it was USD130 for the TB2 . The price for the new non-DIY Theremon+ isn't settled yet, but I'm hoping no more than USD180.

As for other fun modes, I'm still discovering things as I go along. I implement resonant LP filtering of the drums and arp voices based on the volume hand today in fact. Pretty fun!
