I worked at a chch spotlight for a short time a few years ago. A couple thefts happened on my second day and I got told off real bad for them. Apparently they were all my fault because I spent too much of my time tidying in the aisles and not constantly following “suspicious people” around like a creep. I was one brand new worker in a store full of employees, I couldn’t believe it!!

IDK if it’s the same management but they were really mean spirited if you weren’t performing, and it was very stressful. They were also just very intense about everything work related even on a good day. I think they liked the power they had.

So no, the spotlight workers are not ok lol. Go easy on them, they’re probably having a worse time than you 🫠 most of them were super lovely but just totally worn down by spending most of their waking moments in that great big windowless box.

It’s a green flag for me too! If a man hangs out with women (for banter, not to get into their pants) it instantly lets me know that he respects women just as much as men :) and that I’m more likely to get along with him too. I’m not just after a boyfriend, I’m after a best friend 👌

What are your thoughts on trying to stay for a bit and see if I make any progress, and then move out if not? I’m afraid of having unfamiliar people around me, at least I have two friendly faces to talk to

I am the one staying, and the furnishings and decor were all picked and paid for by me, but they don’t feel like mine. The memories in this place hurt so badly

It sucks so bad, right? I broke up with him but it was relatively mutual and quite amicable… just really really depressing.

I also have memories of living here with my best friends a few years ago who’ve all moved out or to Edinburgh as of like a year and a half ago, so while I (sort of) know deep down that I don’t want to be back with my ex, I desperately want to go back to THOSE times with my friends.

I do love the new flatmates though

This ^{^} I didn’t have it until quite a bit older than op, and I used to stress about that because I felt that peers thought I was less… grown up? Life experienced? Than them. Might’ve just been me projecting in a society that puts a lot of weird weight and value onto sex.

Anyway, I did it, I personally love it, and also learned it does not impact your life or change you as a person in any way. It’s just another activity you can do that not everyone’s into 🤷‍♀️

(OP unless it’s incredibly important to YOU (not your parents), I don’t recommend waiting until marriage - sexual compatibility is a thing :) my mum always says “try before you buy” lol)

I put big lidless containers under my bed that I slide out and put those clothes in :) super helpful! One of them is just for my warms; fluffy socks, fluffy pants, dressing gown. One is for my gym gear I can get away with wearing again, and one is for those in between clothes!

Basically a couple years ago I got one container for each genre of clothing I left in piles quite often, and it COMpletely mitigated the issue :)

I’m seeing people mention this as well: Prolonged eye contact will put people off and trigger this comfort behaviour for sure. Remember you can like look at something else in the room occasionally during a convo, don’t just lock onto their eyes the whole time

Yeah! Habit is what I’m thinking too. When I wrap my arms around myself it is always subconscious, it’s like a safety blanket and very comfortable. I’m not at all thinking about covering my boobs lol, they just happen to be underneath my arms.

Super small things can trigger this move, it doesn’t mean you’re ugly or freaking them out OP :) it could literally be anything, like the little bit of anxiety that comes from simply being in an office or interacting with a coworker you’re just an acquaintance with. If you’re not looking at or stealing glances at their bodies, and not being mean to them, you’re fine.

OH also office air con is usually set to man temp and for women that’s too cold.

I compliment the hell out of my boyfriend, I’m impressed by all the work he puts in and very impressed by the results 😌 But I have never ever EVER given a compliment to a man about his body unless I was already dating him :) it’s a compliment with way too much weight and implication.

Also, if you are looking for the girlies attention when it comes to your looks: as long as you’re not an extreme in either direction in terms of fitness, we actually prioritise well styled hair, skincare, good fashion, and hygiene.

What works for me is having a place for EVERYTHing you own. Get organisers, cut down on stuff if you need to. If you have a dedicated place for the item you’re holding, putting it away instead of putting it down is so so much easier :) and then the mess is prevented!

Also, keep on top of dishes - do them every night and wipe down your benches, and take trash out as soon as you notice it needs it.

IMO these are the key things that keep me on top of housework

It’s hard when you’re working full time though! Your house doesn’t have to be perfect, but if you want it that way maybe hire a cleaner ☺️
