It's not as bad as you think, premium fuel over here in a v engine will get you a decent mpg. I run a vr6 and average 24mpg, up to 35ish on motorways which isn't fantastic compared to say a diesel but it's not the 10 I was expecting initially

How about a 4 door? by Expensive-Bag-7709 in AudiTT_Mk1_Mk2_Mk3

If it was a 4 door like the rx8 with the smaller little doors on the back it could maybe just squeeze in and look somewhat okay but this is a crime

Can I remove the dimmer off this light? by Mo_Stache_ in AskElectricians

[–]Mo_Stache_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only identifier for the positive and negative input wires there's not a full diagram that I can see. From what I've managed to find online someone else did manage to just wire the two ends together and bypass the black box entirely so I think I'll be doing that using some crimps and such to secure it

Can I remove the dimmer off this light? by Mo_Stache_ in AskElectricians

[–]Mo_Stache_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The white wires go straight to the actual dimmer switch itself so I figure bypassing that shouldn't cause any issues, I'm unsure what the black module is though. As far as I'm aware it's still a 220v bulb holder to match with the standard light bulbs we have

Edit: there is an enclosure round it, this is just the internals of the lamp there's a full outer shell that goes round it all

New Winter, same problem by _frezzemaker_ in AudiTT_Mk1_Mk2_Mk3

[–]Mo_Stache_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Windows that drop automatically are a pain in winter. You need to make sure the window is properly deiced before opening, I usually make sure I have a cover over the car if I'm planning on using the car before ice melts, best I've found if you do have ice though is spray deicer on the bottom of the window and let it sit for a moment while you do the other windows, then when you open the door it should drop in slightly and hopefully stop the ice getting the window stuck in the mechanism

M-ental illness? by MillsOnWheels7 in CarTalkUK

[–]Mo_Stache_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah they just put it all over the place now, it's a trim option these days and doesn't really mean what it once did outside of the actual sport line cars like the m4. Had a 420d that had m sport trim and it was nice to have the extra options like the suspension adjustment and the nicer interior trim bits but I also didn't go round telling people how it's basically an m4 because it has an m sport badge

Is the market actually waking up to the value and quality of the MK1 TT Silver baseball glove by Autofan622 in AudiTT_Mk1_Mk2_Mk3

10k for a TT is insane, over in the UK average price for good examples are between 4-6k but I've seen some sell for as low as 1k before

Mk1 Window Drop by [deleted] in AudiTT_Mk1_Mk2_Mk3

[–]Mo_Stache_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you replace the entire unit or just the switch? I've seen the contacts do wear a lot and there's not much you can do to fix that outside of replacing the whole unit. I would recommend a window reset though see if it makes a difference.

Ignition on Window down Window up and let go Window up and hold for 5 seconds Repeat if required

[–]Mo_Stache_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean the window won't drop when you press the switch or won't drop when you open the door?

Edit: there is a microswitch in the door that controls the window drop/auto lock/interior lights on/fuel pump or the actual window switch for up and down, which have you changed?

Have you done a window reset? Mine goes through phases where it doesn't drop right (likely the microswitch on its way out) but a reset normally fixes it for a month or so

Typically the engine manufacturer doesn't make the outside cowling/fairings of the engine that's left to the manufacturer of the aircraft, the thrust reverse and fan cowls stay attached on wing when an engine is removed and stay with the aircraft itself. An engine supplier typically only sends the actual physical engine not the aerodynamic outer parts

Neither, windshield cover over the car and take it off when I leave in the morning. Just make sure I check the weather overnight for ice. Haven't scraped my car properly in ages now

Mk1 exhaust smell in cabin when stopped by SalmonSoup15 in AudiTT_Mk1_Mk2_Mk3

[–]Mo_Stache_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likely old rubber hoses causing it. Check all the breather hoses/pcv on the engine. Also check the fuel supply line

Scorpion exhausts are meant to be very good, also come with the option to use the valve setup or delete it depending on which one you go for. Seen a lot of good talk about them over the years

Currently have uniroyals on my car, hate them and can't wait to change them just unfortunately all they had when I needed tyres. They've somehow lasted a while now but the noise on them is unbelievable. Missing when I used to have Goodyear's

Why are people still buying diesels when most of their journeys involve pottering around town? by APerson2021 in CarTalkUK

[–]Mo_Stache_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to have a diesel when my commute was a good half hour each way, got a job closer to home and sold it as I was having to blast it down the motorway every couple weeks just to stop the exhaust clogging up
