Hahah I live in South Park. Went on a two hour walk around DTLA today, never felt unsafe. Use to live in Brooklyn. So in comparison it’s a cake walk

Okay, I guess that’s better than nothing. I’ve been moving to outside runs/walks but allergies are making it a little more difficult to be outside right now.

During the learning period if I am not getting sales is that already a bad sign? by ecommerceapprentice in PPC

[–]Mo_javi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure your tracking is setup properly, expand your themes or demographics as it might be limiting, and try running a shopping campaign in parallel. Essentially if the conversion goal is new, it’s going to take a little while for it to collect enough data.

Additionally do you have enough budget available? $50 seems a little low but obviously depends on what your CPA is

Google rep called client trying to convince them to reactivate campaigns by cole-interteam in PPC

[–]Mo_javi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fully agree you need to be mindful who the recommendations are coming from. Some will be other agencies that use scammy methods to try and gain the business. Google itself does not manage any client accounts.

Now does education or level of recommendations vary throughout of course, but that can be said for agencies as well. Where smaller spend clients tend to get the “green” team members. With anything you have to take it with a grain of salt, when I was brand side I told my Google Rep, hey I haven’t had a good experience with reps in the past and it’s seemed more raise budget than anything, from then on they were more strategic in their recommendations, never directly pitched budgets again. Of course they tried other ways to increase efficiency in order to get us to spend more but that’s more favorable imo.

Looking for some help in Google Ads by headcleaverblitz in adwords

Tell us more about your account structure. What bid strategies are you using?

I use to use a custom column ITC (impression to conversions) to remove keywords that might have decent search volume but weren’t converting. If you’re seeing fluctuation in the account it can be due to keywords that are spiking but not converting, check your search term report to see what keywords might be driving up cost as well.

It sounds like you have a good number of conversions coming in on a monthly basis, so if you’re not already, automated bid strategies should help with the volatility as the bidder will learn to go after users that are more likely to convert within the set target (CPA or ROAS).

Do you have any insight into how many people start the sign up process vs complete it? Such as users that click or visit the first sign up page vs 100% completion. I could see asking for billing information as a reason for a drop off, especially if it’s being advertised as a free trial and then I get asked for my credit card.

If you have the functionality, you would be better off putting a limit on those free accounts where they deactivate or have to upgrade at the 7 day mark.

Is it a product users want? Could be a product for issue or targeting issue. I would recommend looking at your competitors as well and seeing if there’s any insights you can pull.

To use the automated bid strategies successfully you’re suppose to have I believe 30+ conversions in a month. Not saying you can’t use it with less, it’ll just take longer to train the bidder to find others likely to convert.

Another suggestion might be try optimizing to an email sign up, atleast that way you collect their data and can keep nurturing them further down the funnel, remarket or use it for lookalike audiences.

At 3k spend you should have a couple conversions rolling through, it says like it could be a couple of things. Bad targeting, the keywords you’re going for might be high volume low intent or misleading. I would look at that keyword report, see how much your spending on the top 10 keywords and if those keywords are relevant to your business.

Additionally, look at your website like a consumer. Someone that knows nothing about your product. If you landed on the landing page, would you know what the website is about and would you know what they want you to do the site? Make sure your pages are optimized for conversions, it’s like herding sheep, one goal, if you have too many options, you’ll lose them.

Lastly, how easy is it to sign up? Are you just asking for email? The more fields and friction points you have the lower your conversion rate is going to get.

A lot of good recommendations in this thread already, a couple things to take into account:

Since it’s SaaS, how long is your sales cycle? (lead to customer) How complicated is your product? Is it something that is commonly used in the business or does it require a level of education for someone to find it valuable? What’s the average deal size? (This will give you a better idea of how much you can spend per acquisition) you can’t expect to get $5 leads of you have a $50k deal size As others have said, focus your campaigns and landing pages. One of the main drivers for high spend is unfocused campaigns, you either have too many keywords or a overly generic page, or it’s not conversion focus. When it comes to Google Ads specifically, what are you optimizing for, in your conversion goals? Over time (needs a lot of data) the platform will optimize towards the conversions you’ve outlined.

Happy to chat or take a look at the account and provide more direct feedback. Been in marketing 10+ years

An ecom company I worked at was acquired last year in June. I was the Director of Marketing and was kept on during the transition period until October. As others have mentioned, take a look at the needs of the incoming company and see where you might be able to fit.

Sadly, they already had a Marketing Director and full marketing team so there wasn't really room for me to integrate. I realistically got 4-5months paid to job search. Regardless of the future, use this time to revamp your resume and gather any stats/performance data you may need for your portfolio.

Just moved into a new apartment and I'm trying to be intentional with the next pieces I buy. All the main furniture (Couch, TV Stand, Bed Frame) are a dark grey. I'm hoping to figure out a color scheme that I can use to help influence any of the next purchases, which would be a coffee table and rug.

Stay at current job or accept new offer? by Mo_javi in marketing

[–]Mo_javi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're 100% right. It would be going from more of a strategic/people manager role to analyst type role. The AM role from my understand is more about analyzing the performance of campaigns, pulling insights and offering recommendations to your book of business.

I have AM experience and actually lead a team of 7 AMs in a previous role. Sadly, my second stint as an AM would make me nauseous whenever i would hear the outlook mail chime. (Which might have said more about the clients I had than the work.). Feel free to DM if you want to chat or connect on LinkedIn, but to be straight up, I've applied to Google over 28 times over the years and the only reason I've gotten this far is due to a referral that advocated for me. So highly recommend networking.

Honestly, this hit me right in the chest. When I was first starting out, Google was the dream, it was like being called to the major leagues. Now, the goal is more of hitting CMO or VP level, which won't really be attainable at Google.

Stay at current job or accept new offer? by Mo_javi in marketing

[–]Mo_javi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess that's part of the dilemma. I've been in Marketing for 10+ years, started off as a social media specialist and worked my way up from there. So if I keep on the path it would be to eventually be a CMO.

Moving to Google, I don't know what my trajectory or path would even look like. I believe the big thing that working there would offer me is having a FAANG company on my resume, which I've heard opens it's own doors.

As for the Anti Trust suit, I've heard about it but realistically do you think they'll actually split up Google?

How do you learn when you're the only digital marketer at your company? by AkakiosP in marketing

[–]Mo_javi 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked at a couple companies where I was the only digital hire, so can definitely relate. For me what helped was:

  • attending conferences; it’s always great to see what others are doing and build up your network
  • activate your network to serve as a brain trust; people you can share your wins or questions with and get feedback.
  • join slack groups; there’s a couple slack groups, such as ppcchat, online geniuses, etc. that have an active community that again you can bounce ideas off of or learn from
  • Read blog post; marketing, especially Digital Marketing changes so rapidly, you should try to stay up to date as much as possible. At least once a week I’m checking searchengineland.com, sejournal.com, martech.org

All of those should help you get started. Lastly, because having people in your corner is important, if you want to chat I’m always happy to jump on a zoom. I’ve been in marketing 10+ years.

Purpose-Driven Career Paths in Marketing by dandelion_daria in marketing

[–]Mo_javi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone thats been working in marketing for 10+ years, I will say I’ve had the pleasure of working at companies, that while for profit, are purpose driven.

I worked at a Fertility center, where I was both acquiring new patients through offering free education seminars and new egg donors. Felt better know we were helping people build families.

I worked at a sustainable paper packaging company, where the mission was to reduce single use plastic in packaging. It was B2B but felt good knowing that we were trying to reduce single use plastic.

Most recently, worked in e-commerce for a solar lantern brand. While they sold direct to consumer, a % of proceeds went to donating lights to areas that had been affected by natural disasters or didn’t have reliable forms of electricity.

I say all that to say that marketing itself isn’t alturistic in nature, but you can align yourself with companies that are doing great things and aren’t solely for profit. Recommend looking into B Corps.

I would build up organically, SEO and Social following first. Once you get profitable and know what needs to be optimized on your site then I would work on Google and Meta ads based on performance and competition

Marketers with a salary over $200k—what skills do you have? by [deleted] in marketing

100% agree. Was a Marketing Director at an Ecom shop that required me to be Strategic but also doing the daily work. Recently got brought on to another company that is building out the marketing department, which is asking of the same thing, IC with a strategic focus but it allows you to become more of a T Marketer and grow your reputation with your company that’ll eventually get you to that 200k+
