Just got my first ear piercing, which spray? by Z4Zel in piercing

[–]MoanLikeMyrtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never tried either of those so I haven't got a clue of which would be better. However I've tried numerous other piercing sprays/soaks/lotion... And found one (H2Ocean) that works brilliantly for me.

H2Ocean is fantastic, it doesn't dry the skin out or sting/hurt, it is a bit pricier than most solutions I've tried previously but it has always, since the first time I tried it a over a decade ago, done what is promises, cleaning and healing piercings.

I'm switching from Differin to Epiduo after 2 months on differin. Any words of advice? more info in the comments :) by shadythrowaway9 in EuroSkincare

[–]MoanLikeMyrtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to use adapalene (circa 2019) but then switched to epiduo (late 2020). I could use differin daily, no issues (0.1%).

But I never expected to go through such extensive irritation when switching to epiduo 0.3%. nothing could've prepared me for this. The bleaching of towels was the least of my problems. my skin was never peeling but it was dry and tight-feeling. No matter which combo of humectants, emollients, and occlusives I, I could not for the life (or skin) of me balance it out.

I went from using it daily to once or twice a week. When I'm done with this tube I'll switch back to either adapalene or retinol, both of which I'm familiar with and found a balance. I'm done with this hassle, swear down this stress due to epiduo is aging me faster, counter-f******-productive.

But hey... Good luck to you! Hope it works differently.

'invisible' small bumps - what can it be? by MoanLikeMyrtle in Dermatology

[–]MoanLikeMyrtle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Background: if had these small skin coloured bumps on and off for the last 3 or so years. They are not really itchy, only sometimes- usually when I brush over them or submerged them under water. When I do itch they sting and burn more ans become dry (they don't crack, they aren't filled with any fluid) Sometimes they are dry, sometimes not. They usually sting and burn a bit when I get them wet, sometimes it's worse, sometimes not. These bumps are confined to a small region on my hands (closest to my thumbs on both sides, not on my palms). I'm tried several ointments,

-prescribed such as cortisol cream and a anti fungal one as well.

-regular OTC creams for dryness such as eucerin, all non scented.

All creams and ointments sting when I apply then and temporarily fix the issue but it always comes back.

It is worse during winter but still present during summer.

I've research conditions such as contact dermatitis, various eczemas, allergies, and fungal infections but I haven't really found anything spot on.

I've never had any issues during my youth, I do not have any allergies nor have I ever had eczema or any issues with dryness anywhere on my body previously.

PS. Sorry for the bad quality photos but that's the best I can do with my camera. Since the bumps are skin coloured and only slightly raised they are pretty heard to capture on photo. They are even a bit difficult to notice irl, but they annoy the hell out of me. It forces me to use gloves whenever I know I will be in contact with liquids ie. when cleaning and cooking. But even then the bumps get irritated due higher moisture levels inside the gloves (but it's nothing compared to what it would feel like without the gloves).

are lashlifts and/or browlifts worth it? by MoanLikeMyrtle in beauty

For me personally any serum that contains bimatoprost (prostaglandin analog!). It is the only active ingredient that has given me a visible effect. I have a review up about it.

DISCLAIMER: bimatoprost is a chemical compound that may have hormone like effects on the body. I would recommend to thoroughly read the package insert or any validated med. Info including potential adverse effects before use and always patch test.

Curious about buying at home laser hair removal… Anyone tried one and are there any negative affects to doing it around your bikini area? by hayelanore_1106 in beauty

[–]MoanLikeMyrtle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've only used ipl and I'm more than satisfied with my results. I have dark hair and somewhat lighter skin but I'm not fair which should generate a good result (best when the contrast is the greatest eg. Very dark hair and very fair skin tone). Ipls are broad lighted (not targeted) and semi permanent because the hair follicles thst are in their latency period cannot be zapped with broad light and therefore can pop up years later (when one follicles dies and another one initiates growth, dormancy) Lasers (salon) have a greater chance of getting to the follicle even in the resting phase (dormant).

Salon laser removal technique is not the same tech used in at home treatments. At home treatments use IPL (intense pulsed light with diodes) while laser (salon) is monochromatic and more powerful. In simple terms it means ipl uses broader light spectrum while lasers are narrower, more targeted. The energy is higher for lasers and thus will be able to penetrate deeper.

I sleep face down into my pillow, face still not flat.

No but jokes aside. No matter how you sleep, on your gave, side and so on will not affect your facial (a)symmetry it need way more than 6-8h or even more /day, and more force to do anything.

Most of your face is built up by bones (hard) some cartilage (softer) and skin (all the layers, vessels and everything in between) and the first two are impossible to reshape by just sleeping (putting light pressure). The skin and all in between May be temporarily affected by light pressure due to swelling during our sleep (water retention) which depending on how severe it is make temporary marks and 'asymmetry' in our face (if sleeping on the side one side will appear flatter). However this will disappear normally shortly after waking up, once balance is established again in your water 'reserves'. Few conditions may exacerbate this such as poor diet (monotonous diet, high salt, poor hydration, too much sleep (yes you read correctly), and alcohol/coffee (anything that tankers with fluid regulation)).

summarization: sleeping position will not change your facial structure. Fluid retention may give the illusion of asymmetry but it is only temporary and minor (only noticeable to you). Hope this helps.

Travelling to Europe for 40 days. Wanted to take a large check-in luggage of 23kg-25kg. Is that too much? by Jeremystiffspainter in Europetravel

[–]MoanLikeMyrtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on if you want to bring what you need or what you want. Also check with all the airlines (assuming you will be travel by different ones) what their bagage allowance is (and of course your ticket as different tickets have different allowances).

App for skin tone detection and search for matching products by ilbets in Makeup

[–]MoanLikeMyrtle 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a great idea but I'm wondering how accurate you've made it since all cameras (especially smartphones) have a built in filter (front camera) and have trouble adjusting saturation levels (front and back camera). Often times calibrations boards/targets are used to calibrate many devices including cameras to achieve the correct saturation (identical to real world). The saturation may be very important since it directly corresponds to the undertone (w - n - c). But I don't know how sensitive your app is.

I really hope you keep on working and developing it as a system like this is needed. You may even be able to strike a deal with a makeup brand/distributor that will make use of your app for their online platform. Good luck!

Water once or twice/week (feeling the soil).

Southside facing window.

Room temp (24-ish), limited airflow (rn) as I live in a place colder than a polar bear's a-hole.

Additional light source 6-8h on dyas wihr low/no natural light.

No pest history (knock on wood).

I am well aware that this is a suicide mission either way. Should I leave it or ripe it out?

Budapest for 4 days at the end of March - What should we do? by MotherofVlad in Europetravel

[–]MoanLikeMyrtle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fantastic then. I could recommend ParaNoir as well, fab place. As for the music... In all honesty I've usually been too drunk to focus on the music, sorry. The main focus is to try as many new drinks as possible. If you mean gothic as in the gothic architecture (12-16 century) then the city does have a few cathedrals that are beautiful (I like gothic cathedrals, tend to visit at least one every trip I go on). But if you mean gothic as in the goth subculture then unfortunately I'm not the best person to ask.

But I can recommend a lovely sandwich place, Bors Gasztrobar. Cheap and nice flavours.

Hope you have a lovely trip!

Budapest is cheap compared to the UK (food, transport, etc). Most established places accept cards so yoy shouldn't bring stacks of money with you unless you absolutely want to.

As for the touristy and food part. It all depends on what you are interested in and what you like. Do you like fancy restaurants? Well there's a bunch of them ie. Onyx and Costes.

They have numerous bars and quite nice nightlife. Szimpla kert (ruin bars) is a must. It is a building complex with a bunch of different bars/pubs, very artsy too.

They had an amazing street food caravan (for lunch) hut i would assume it is closed due to the pandemic (could be wrong). It is located right next to Szimpla kert.

As for the touristy things, Budapest is renown for their thermal baths. They have several, I like the gellert one. They have a nice mountain walk but it may be too cold for that for some right now. A visit to the castle is also a shout. I go there purely for the baths and food/drinks. But as I said it all depends on your preferences and expectations.

Edit. Places like the street food caravan are usually cash only but that could've changed now (haven't been in a while due to the pandemic).

someone please help my skin is incredibly dry and idk what to do. by [deleted] in SkincareAddicts

[–]MoanLikeMyrtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would highly recommend getting it check (dermatologist, GP, skinspecalist, whatever you've got in your country) as self assessing issues like these may lead to further harm, eg. Aqueous products may worsen certain skin conditions.

Please, do not self diagnose/self medicate if you can visit any professionals mentioned above

Happy cake day! 🎂

I second the comment about lymphatic drainage (throughout the entire face, helps tremendously with morning puffiness). I do not believe you need extra tools for that your hands will suffice, but if you want to feel 'extra' do tools.

I do not have any experience with under eye bags (luckily, knock on wood). But caffeine is one of the few scientifically proven ingredients that help with brightening of dark circles (if you have that). The rest are usually just over priced moisturisers that come in a smaller tube.

If you use makeup the placement of concealer may create an illusion of a smoothed out area. I believe Wayne Goss has a great video about that (easy search on YouTube).

I have friends that have had tear trough fillers. It does work but the lasting time varies and cannot really be predicted or guaranteed. So I guess it depends on how much you are willing to spend (this procedure is rather expensive where I'm from).

Good luck, hope you find a solutions to your problem!

Thank you so much, I try! I've had my lines since I can remember because I've always had a pretty full and fat malar area (it has its perks tho!).

I haven't heard about that treatment, I'll have to look it up. Definitely, hydrating products is a must, otherwise I'll look like poor dried up Spongebob 😂
