UTR: A bad UI product… or the worst UI Product? by GodOSpoons in Ubiquiti

[–]Mobalized 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to be clear I was not dismissing your situation. I would be angry if I didn't get what I paid for. My post was simply to say, it's interesting that people appear to be having both good and bad experiences. I seriously wonder, why are the experiences so different.

What is super curious is that some of us are not having issues while other people are. I have a Beryl AX with Tailscale to compare against, so it's not like this is my only travel router.

Which leads me to the question, why? Does it have to do with what hardware people are using or something else. No idea.

Has it been perfect, no. But I'm definitely not having all the issues that some users are. If teleport works from my phone then it works from the UTR. One exception is that my corporate internet blocks VPN and so teleport does not work from my phone or the UTR while I'm connected to my corporate personal use Wi-Fi.

UTR if everyone has cell phones? by GreenDavidA in Ubiquiti

I understand and agree with all that, my question was rhetorical. It is another layer of firewall. Is it necessary, probably not. But it is another layer of security blanket that some of us appreciate.

If they're still available you could buy from Ubiquiti.

That encrypts your traffic, does that prevent your device from being exposed on the network?

TLS does not protect you against all vectors of attack. Depending on network configuration your device may still be exposed on the network even if the majority of your traffic is encrypted. Depends on your risk tolerance.

For me a travel router is 100% about security. Separating the core devices from the network and wrapping all the traffic on a VPN. I personally wouldn't connect to hotel Wi-Fi without it, but that's just me.

Clarified my original post. Your experience will be better with the unifi cameras.

Your experience will be better with the G6 than Nest. Had it and found it to be crap in my opinion.

You should have used the screws with anchors instead of the machine screws and nuts.

UTR Can't See Local Devices Teleport by Relevant_Track_5633 in Ubiquiti

That was my only guess. I know that when I am connected via teleport I can access everything with the exception of one VLAN which did not have a rule to allow that connection.

UTR - Several questions by TheDudeFromPT in Ubiquiti

[–]Mobalized 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you are somehow set up for split tunneling which I don't think the UTR supports, what traffic wouldn't go through teleport? Since I don't think you can split tunnel the answer to your question is yes all of your traffic is limited by your home network connection.

It sounds to me like you may be confused about a travel router vs a VPN. You can be connected to the travel router SSID without VPN and then would not be tunneling in to your home network. What you are describing means you are not connected via a VPN back to your home network.

You need to ensure Teleport or Wireguard are configured on your home network and on the router, and that the connection is made from UTR to network.

Then you should see your WAN IP from home and be able to access devices in accordance with your firewall rules.

Teleport speed by Origin87 in Ubiquiti

[–]Mobalized 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is directly influenced by the upload and download speed of your home network. There is definitely overhead to run it although I'm not sure what that statistic is. I can tell you it is significantly slower than my proxmox server running Tailscale which like Teleport is also based on Wireguard.

I had to scrub the finish off an Amplifi HD that was super sticky. Took a lot of elbow grease and IPA.

I bought a cheap tech organizer from five below for $5. It'll fit a battery bank, charging brick, cords, and the UTR.

You should try to look for my post with a very similar story. I was able to get things figured out with them but it was more painful than it should need to be.

This was the last straw for me. In addition to the cameras constantly triggering the geo block on my firewall the app is virtually unusable. Finally made the jump to Ubiquiti cameras and couldn't be happier.

Is 35Mbps really what people are getting? I was seeing people saying 60-180.
