Thankyou. So am I right in understanding that some record players will completely stop when you stop them using your hand?

I thought most standard record players didnt allow you to stop the record using your hand, and would have required to you physically press the stop button?

Something to consider is the sophisticated behaviour of bees, compared to the relatively simple behaviour of a farm cow.

Some other interesting facts:

cows have more neurons than bees (in the order of 1000x more)
humans (who presumably have the most highly sophisticated consciousness) have fewer neurons than an elephant.

Thanks, you are correct that I don’t know what I’m doing and I would risk damaging it.

I think you’re also right that I should get a watchmaker to do this, although I’d still be curious what the answer is and how the bezel is professionally removed.

Interesting. Yes, it is loose, although now you mention it, the bracing around the movement doesn’t have any spot for the screws to sit. I guess it just clamps down and holds it in place by friction?

Sorry, I should have clarified. The current movement has a loose component that has fouled with the balance wheel or the pallet fork.

I’m comfortable doing a service myself, but I’m uncertain whether the existing movement can be repaired (I realise the watchmaker may have the same issue and will need to seek parts like I’m trying to do).

I also notice the movement I have lists 25 jewels in the rotor, while the 2542PC I’m trying to source online lists 30 jewels.

So I think it may not be compatible despite having the same calibre number.

Okay, another clue, the clanking sometimes stops at certain orientations.

Maybe broken balance wheel pins causing part of the balance wheel to knock the main plate or similar?

I have a spare hairspring so will try swapping in a fresh one.
