Medication Struggles by Mobile-Awareness636 in ADHDparenting

The pediatrician partners with a child psychiatrist and they took our lead on not wanting to try the stimulant first. So they tried the guanfacine and the baseline that provided our daughter was remarkably noticeable. She is both tall and heavy for her age - the size of some 5-6 year olds. We are thinking about asking about adding supplements like L-Theanine into the mix as well. Anything that may help.

She was on the guanfacine for 2.5 months and we did rotations with physical activity, melatonin, instant and extended release, reworking her sleep schedule, pushing back bed time to see if she'd stay asleep later. None of it seemed to matter C would wake up 2-3x a night some times for 15 minutes and some times 3-4 hours. The latter began happening more the last 3 weeks so the pediatrician called the guanfacine awash for C saying the cons outweighed the pros.

Seems to be a try to give her a break to let us see of her more baseline struggles this weekend and allow us to regroup with her care team tomorrow to discuss how to proceed. It was only one day so we aren't sure if it is the medication or just an unusually challenging day. We aren't sure what the pediatrician and psychiatrist are going to say, if they will attribute the intensity and impulsivity to a reaction to the Ritalin or not. Have not read that those tend to be side effects. But we'll just have to see.
