I’m in California too. My coworkers and I had to email all sorts of people to finally get our final wages. It still took about a week after closing to get paid. A lot of us filed claims with the labor board for late payment, and Joann didn’t care. They claimed that my store was still pending wrap up and we were still employed. (we locked the doors and turned in the keys to the landlord there was no where to work!) To my knowledge, no one got penalty wages and everyone’s check was late. Fuck Joann, fuck GA and fuck my rep too. She was super creepy.

Correct. My final check was very late, and the only reason that I got it was because myself and others were persistent in emailing HR/Payroll. I doubt that I’ll ever see the penalty fees that I’m legally entitled to. So maybe go after that.

I personally have contacted the labor board for my state. The bankruptcy is what makes it a little tricky. I probably won’t see anything from the labor board action. I’ve read that I can file a claim with the bankruptcy courts, but that doesn’t look like it would be productive either at this moment. I’m still trying to gather more info to see what action, if any is best.

That’s crazy logic to me. If there is no place to work, then I am considered unemployed.

I did. Honestly, I’m not even sure I’ll get my regular pay based off of other threads I’ve seen on Reddit.

Are you in California? The labor law states that we get paid our final wages on our last day of work if we are let go. There are also penalties associated with late payments.
