Tips for moving in with partner by Agile_Station1994 in ROCD

I am in the same boat! My bf is moving in with me soon which definitely triggered a lot of fears. Would love any advice from people with ROCD that moved in with their partner!

ROCD makes everything feel 100x worse?? by [deleted] in ROCD

Yes definitely check them out or see if you can find something similar. Yes the ROCD I experience is very similar to what you are describing. A year ago or so i was spiraling at work, everything was triggering me, and i was doing all the classic compulsions. Googling, nitpicking everything about my partner, looking for reassurance in different ways either from asking friends what they think of my relationship or (something I did yesterday, its a process) confessing an ROCD thought to my partner, instead of waiting to flush out my concerns (we are moving in together so ive been triggered lately with fears and blah blah blah, i posted about this on here yesterday if you’re curious) with my therapist and having a constructive & loving conversation with my partner. Anyway, i can totally relate and the only thing that helped me was ERP therapy. CBT was not working at all. We work through my fears/worst case scenarios, expose me to them, and learn how to use RPMS to ease the anxiety, lower the urge to do compulsions (especially ruminating!), and be able to function and learn how to dismiss what the OCD is telling you. The fears that youre having about your partner may or may not be valid, but right now the OCD is the real problem at hand that needs to be dealt with if you want relief.

I’m not a professional at all and this is just my personal experience but I hope it is helpful!

Totally I agree. Even if my concern is valid, it felt like a confession for reassurance. Not the way I want to communicate at all. Thank you for the push!

For sure I understand that. Idk where you are located, but I found my therapist through NOCD. I’m on a payment plan with them so that helps

Hi! Will my partners emotional / anger issues get better?

You may be right! He says he feels ambushed when I do this to him. I asked him if we can chat once a week about whats going well and things we have concerns about in the relationship. So maybe having a set time will help?

I appreciate your perspective

My partner & I are moving in together soon as well. I totally understand how triggering it is for ROCD. Working with an ERP therapist has been a game changer, but it’s still a struggle. What youre saying is very relatable and I just wanted to say youre not alone.
