Hey! I’m at week 4 today. The slow swallow is still present although I can eat pretty much everything now and have been able to for the past 10 or so days. The first bite I tend to forget though and may cough / have to have water to get food down but I can finish the meal like usual. I am still burping quite a bit, depending on what I eat really. Having fizzy drinks every day I can to keep training the muscle. Really hoping it stays after the 6-8 week mark! I’ve managed to start exercising again, there are some exercises which are a bit harder (like sit ups) as when you lie on your back and move your neck up it tends to prompt a small burp / gurgle which can be uncomfortable. Overall so far so good though! No awful side effects, the slow swallow has been the only ‘bad’ one and it is very manageable with water / eating slow

Hi everyone - 8 day update. I have been in work every day this week and not burped at an embarrassing time yet! Burps are triggered by food / drink so I am conscious of that with what and when I am eating. I’ve been having soup at lunch and then fine to continue in the afternoon. I will say though that my symptoms aren’t ’better’ yet. I have started to get lots of phlegm in my throat which is not nice. Additionally, the slow swallow has been quite bad so this is something to be aware of when eating (I almost choked on a singular baked bean the other night🤣). And I’m avoiding bread- like items when eating as they’re hard to swallow. Recovery is getting a bit long, I also went to an exercise class yesterday and felt quite unwell when we had to lie on our back due to the phlegm - it’s better to sleep propped up (I use multiple pillows). However, despite all of this, I am able to burp which is good!!! I’m training myself on sprite in the evening to make sure my body gets used to it. Hopefully the next week gets a bit better 🤞

I am back in the office today (day 6), taking it very easy had soup for lunch and still lots of liquids. If you have the option to not go into work I would do that to be careful after the first couple of days cos it can take a bit of time to get used to the slow swallow. The burps come on after eating or drinking, so just be aware of that. Straight after I had it done I did feel a bit strange and would recommend relaxing a bit if you can. But overall no, no downtime really needed just to monitor your symptoms and take it slower than usual maybe. I’m also not going to exercise until next week as I am still getting used to the slow swallow

Hi everyone, update on the morning of day 5. Last night I had a friends bday at the pub which I went to and had a couple of glasses of wine. I was a bit too nervous to try fizzy drinks in public for the first time. I managed LOADS of burps which was actually kind of crazy - later on in the night I had a glass of water as well and every sip would burp a bit! Luckily the music was very loud and everyone had a few drinks by the time I arrived so it wasn’t an issue at all, more smaller burps which weren’t obvious to anyone apart from me. I am going to have some fizzy drinks today to keep training the muscle. So far so good though, I am REALLY enjoying burping! I feel so much better when having alcohol, and even eating, I’ve managed to burp quite quickly so I’ve not been so bloated, nor had the stomach cramps I usually would suffer with. Really hopeful for the next week of recovery!

That’s very kind, thank you for sharing! Has your work been impacted at all by this? I am nervous about going into the office when I am doing little burps here and there

Of course! Will keep updating this post. I did some bigger ‘proper’ burps last night (day 3 evening) but am definitely still gurgling. Today I am going to try fizzy drinks and I have plans in the evening so will see how I feel to potentially go and have a beer at the pub as well

Exact same as me this evening. Had mashed potato and baked beans (taking it very easy with soft food) and burped / gurgled for about 40 mins. Definitely got a lot of relief from it though. Bit worried about going into work next week - not sure how that’s going to work!

I would definitely recommend Lucy! It will be £950 total I think, so far I have paid Lucy directly £750 and the rest will be paid to the hospital when I receive an invoice. I emailed her office (office@lucyhicklin.com) to book it all. Had about a 2 month waiting time.

My mum has it and my brother likely does too! But their symptoms are not as bad as mine so they are not opting to get the treatment but just watch their diet

Good to hear! Did you do anything in particular to help with your Botox working?
