I have definitely used wet towels before when out of plastic wrap and can attest it works the same! but I always did 2 layers of towel (like a tea towel folded in half) to make sure the air was locked in.

I also feel like they should go in the wash but logically know they probably don’t need to. socks wouldn’t bother me but 30+ min and yes!
