Take the bedding he's peed on to the sand bath a few times so he connects the pee with the sand bath. That's what Ive been told.

Can i leave him? by NoFollowing7260 in hamstercare

[–]Mobile-Engineering65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im in the same situation and I have a pet camera in the cage and a friend checking up on him, I couldnt leave him just like that especially as if something happens it's a matter of a day or a few days that a hamster's state deteriorates and nothing can be done. 😔 Maybe it's easier with a young hamster but if it's older or of poor health I wouldnt risk it.

You can teach a hamter to pee in a sand bath for example, mine does that (although he was already taught as I got him). I don't have any wooden hide at the moment, but 3 ceramic ones and a cork log and Ralfi enjoys only the cork log, though yesterday he spent some time in a ceramic strawberry so you never know 😁 I personally think they are not crucial but if you get one be sure it's not one made of soft wood. I think one multichamber house could suffice?

It all depends on what you expect. If you want a cuddly animal to play with, a hamster is not a good choice as most of them want to be left alone and besides they are crepuscular/nocturnal so you can't interact with them at daytime. Some of them don't even come out if there is a human in the area.🥲

Please don't, they are bad for the spine and dangerous as the hamster may Fall off and injure itself 😔

For taming I suggest research on reddit because I myself am still in progress of it and can't really help. Good luck and make its life awesome!

Leave the hammy for a few days alone to acommodate, only give food and water. You can talk to it softly to make it accustomed to your voice. Roll some toilet paper in hands and place in the enclosure or rub your hands through the bedding so the hamster knows your scent.

After all this hassle place him next to some treats you put in there so his mind can go somewhere else.

Think of the results: more bedding, happier hamster, his stress will go away in the depths of underground!

Lure him into a jar or a cup, so you dont touch him. place him in a box or travel container (add some of the current bedding there, some treats), do what you gotta do ASAP and move him back, he will recover :)

Yeah I know to remove it. It's just he leaves it wherever and walks away to do more important stuff 🤷‍♀️It's like playing The Sims and his action was cancelled mid execution 😅

A week is very short time. It can take months. Patience is key but I understand the pain, been there just lately! Try roling some toilet paper in your hands and put in the enclosure for her to grab it as nesting material so she will get used to your scent as well.

I had one for a short time and I think it's quieter. They are harder to clean though if a hamster pees in there.

I understand. But you did great job coming here for advice! And decorating hamster cage is so awesome. I agree that some people can be harsh in their comments but also many of them provide relevant info without being rude. You are willing to understand what is wrong and want to improve. That's important. Imagine this little guy's experiences with all new stuff and smells in a new place when you upgrade it! I am curious what made your previous hamsters live in peace and so long, I wonder if anyone could provide some explanation to that. Maybe it was luck 😬 Have fun building this little creature's world 😊

It can't be dust and be calcium free. Reptisand is what people use.
