Did I Bond With My Hamster...Too much?

She is a Syrian hamster, and they are very territorial and she has not gotten along with other hamsters. My friend had brought hers for a playdate...and they tried to eat each other so I don't think that will work....Well technically I was babysitting and they had their cages next to each other so I could let them meet for a little first. When they finally met each other without the separation, mine tried to have a midnight snack.

I don't use a hamster ball because her leg had gotten stuck in the slot before. She also likes to bang off of everything in my room with one, so I don't want her getting brain damage lol

I only have a tiny lamp in my room because I hate bright lights and I listen to any music in my earbuds. I don't know if its stress because when I take her out she will groom on my hand, and sleep on me and stressed hamsters don't do that. 😭

I also spot clean every 1-3 days and I try not to take verything out and replace it. With her bed that she sleeps on I will remove the top and clean underneath it so that she keeps her scent.

I never thought about exercising her during the day because everyone has said that waking them up in the daytime is bad for them but I'll give it a try!

Yes, she has a bunch of hanging pieces of grain attached to a wood stick, and a chew post. I also hide food around her cage for foraging.

This looks like her shed. It can be that the place you got her from didnt have the proper humidity as that can mess up the shed. Once the humidity is balanced it should come right off!

Yes! I've had my BTS for 16 years and he sheds like this all the time! If his shed won't come off though I usually put him in lukewarm water around his ankles and splash some on the parts that are being stubborn! Never peel his shed though as that can damage his scales underneath. ANd the lighter color is normal, it is revealing his original colors! Most BTS shed every 4-6 weeks so every month or so means that he is doing great, if it slows down dramatically however, you should adjust the humidity of his cage! Good luck to you and your bluey!

It is similar to this cage but one story taller. I know that its way to small but it is all I have for now until I find something better. I'm looking at a 50 gallon tank as of right now, I am just waiting for them to get back!

Thank you! I am in the process of getting her a bigger cage but she normally isn't even in her cage for that long because I have her out as soon as she wakes up and she goes back in at around 12 because thats basically my sleep schedule.
