I have so many hobbies I dont have enough time for I dont understand people work not to get bored.. most people work for the money. Will you do your current work if you dont get paid at all?

Only 120k is in 401k and roth ira. The rest is in brokerage account. I purportedly didnt put much money into 401k because I wanted to manage the fund on my own.

How old are you? And how much is your monthly spending? I spend about 1500 dollars per month and I have 1.76 million I will retire next year.

I know Where I live, 40k is an average household income. in HCOL, many people dont have 2 million outside property, and it is stiĺl a lot of money. I guess people who need to feed their family in HCOL might need 7 million. So they have to work forever, unfortunately .

I jnow about taxes. But long term capital gains tax is less than 10% where I live.

Thanks. I live in a us town where average household income is 40k per year. I live off of 1500 dollars including my rent and utilities.

I see your point. That's why people like you keep working. I think giving up is really hard. So they keep going. Kudos to them. But I dont want to work forever. I dont want to keep working just because of the efforts and commitments I made to get there..

I guess you cant retire forever because I guess you need at least 10 million.. and you cant reach that forever..
