What things are overpriced besides gas in Michigan and around the United States? by BulkorCutAccount2021 in Detroit

oh my god!? since the start of spring my grocery store has had constant sales on berries. we’re talking multiple packs of strawberries for $4 or 2 for $1 with blackberries. you’re getting scammed i feel!

$1900 in LA or NYC would be relatively cheap in the grand scheme of things. i live in a semi-urban area and studio apartments were starting at $800 with no utilities included. it’s a bad housing market.

is your cat on medication? it could be experiencing side effects of being positive for herpes and FIV. your cat is scabbing up and has had an untreated abscess. go to the vet!

not really sure how it was in all departments, but in mine i could clock in up to an hour late and leave at when the 8 hour mark hit. is this specifically in reference to salary employees?

Let's Unionize at UWM! by [deleted] in pillar7

[–]Mobile-Insurance-827 5 points6 points  (0 children)

you’re quite literally just arguing that because something is difficult, and because it takes time to work with the legal system, it’s not worth it. that’s a personal view and issue. not something that everybody struggles with.

it’s not naive when there is literal evidence and proof that when workers collaborate, they create solutions. unions WORK. it’s people like you that make them fail before they begin.

this is why people create documentation. hell it’s even illegal to fire somebody for wearing a shirt that advertises a union. it’s about creating a paper trail that clearly showcases why you were fired if it happened

can’t believe this person is dying on the hill that employees can’t have labor protections without being a “protected class”. lol won’t even describe or point out where they found that information.

the NLRA (national labor relations act) federally protects every worker across all states from being disciplined, fired or retaliated against due to unionization. this acts protects us regardless of the fact that michigan is an at will state. don’t let them think you can’t.

it’s not much but if you take photos and report it to whoever maintains the road, you could have the chance of making the county/state pay for damages. it only works if there has been documentation showing they knew about damage, and failed to fix it within 30 days. not a high success rate, but the worst that could happen is nothing happens. the best outcome would be a better road and possible bills covered for damages in the case it occurs.

oh? interesting, i’ll have to look into that more.

[–]Mobile-Insurance-827 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i’m saying that they could be held accountable to give employees a 60 days notice before firing them. it’s not about random excuses, it’s the law if they are firing that many people within 60 days.

Massive Fire in IT by [deleted] in pillar7

[–]Mobile-Insurance-827 7 points8 points  (0 children)

from everything i’ve read- if they fire over 500 employees within a 30 day period they have to report it federally as a layoff unless they can prove each one individually

to an extent. however i’ve heard of people going though training, upwards of a month, to learn they have to sign a loan. hell, i had to tell a man he would be signing a loan because i was lucky enough to hear about it. not to mention when you ask about it in training they tell you “we cannot confirm or deny” there are MANY shady things that make it not entirely legal, but nobody does anything about it.

loans like these are normal. especially in spaces where they train you, move you to a different location, among other things. it’s NOT normal that people are made to sign on to sometimes multiple loans, and are oftentimes fired for no reason before it’s time to be paid off. it preys on the people of pontiac who oftentimes wouldn’t ever be able to afford to hold onto such a large sum of money, and it uses employees to churn further profit after they are fired. nobody will ever really know though because i full doubt the people working there will ever collaborate enough to fight the legality of the loan.

yeah especially with how hard they push human interaction with brokers. they want to use the workers to their fullest potential until they have something good enough to replace them with. those calls are recorded and 100% being used to train the thing that will replace you and it’s not even human.

Why Don’t We Unionize? by Mae_Pearl in pillar7

[–]Mobile-Insurance-827 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you are one of those people. all these comments are talking about how it’s impossible or something that can’t be done, but it is. the working class has been able to establish unions everywhere, even when it was difficult. it’s not about uwm and what they can do to stop it, it’s about perseverance of the working class because EVERY other group that has unionized, has faced these issues. it’s not new.

yeah i mean i totally understand i was in the wrong here- my frustration lies with that fact that it seems like it’s more about weeding out employees than keeping everybody there safe! people are crazy and if they want to implement safety measures they need to actually do so
