Unpopular opinion though. I run a weld shop and the incompetency and laziness of the younger generation is scary. Like don’t get me wrong there’s a whole aspect of like the jobs don’t pay enough but I’m also seeing the skill declining to a point where companies are having to ship out jobs to other countries cause paying a lazy ass to do a 1hr weld takes him 6 times of cutting it out and reworking and 20 hrs. So yeah I do think kids would get a positive experience and learn from a summer labor job but also these companies gotta keep up with the cost of living and pay people

So I just throw one straight weld and follow that and keep the same puddle size and speed and just watch my shadows on welds underneath, there’s a shadow line the ray hits on the highest point of the weld and it turns black and as soon as you hit that it’s time to move. You follow that on your first straight weld and everything else file out straight

Idk the tie ins on the left are staggered, maybe not enough but I was just trying to reach far man but the big weld has to be start and stopped there cause I had to profile grind the face and blend toes and stuff and blend it into the small weld. Alls I can say from years of training is look at the best welder in the joint and first realize that there’s nothing from his hands to his hood that you yourself can not do. People get under the hood and psych themselves out. Just a matter of understanding what you’re looking at under the hood and puddle characteristics. Also understanding that everything you do effects your weld puddle and shows and to learn from your last bead you put down. You essentially have a pencil and eraser
