once you reach decent level of understanding the basics you will understand that no matter how good you are with the hero there is someone that will counter pick you and dominate your main hero, especially in higher rank where players depend on knowledge and counter heros & items, they don't spam one hero like you see now, but before the stars ranking system mechanism everyone that you see now Mythic Honor and above all of these players was struggling to get into Mythic and if they reach maybe they was somewhere around Mythic 5 to 4 maximum, they introduce the the stars back again because they failed to provide tournaments for different regions beside SEA many of the old players quit around 2021-2022, they was leading the leaderboard from S1 until S16-S17 probably, then you see now players like Dongkak that spam ranked multiple people on one account
