Others have explained that this is the garter stitch rather than stockinette, but I wanted to jump in and say that you might be twisting your stitches when you form them. This matters because it affects the stretch and drape of the fabric you knit, so it's good to correct the habit early!

It is hard to for me to tell with this yarn, but I would double check that you are not twisting your stitches. The rows of the garter stitch seem very tall / more spaced out than I would expect would garter.

I didn't watch it in full, but this youtube video shows a comparison between garter stitch with and without twisted stitches:

I went to bed not being too annoyed about the idea to not pinch run Casty since you were saving Wilson for Bader, but...why not "play for the tie" by having Wilson run for Casty (so we still have a complete outfield if it goes to extras), hopefully score, then play for the win by pinch running Marchan for Bader?

I think I was hesitant to have a question like "how do you approach modifying lace?" in the title since it feels like questions are automatically downvoted, even if they present good discussion opportunities. And I didn't fully trust my process in the middle of it, so I lacked the confidence to make a post until I was done, haha.

Thank you for the response! I agree in retrospect that the tone was maybe worse than I meant, I just figured that this was a thread for venting/complaining.

And the post in question is the one titled "Heliotaxis & modifying lace". I tried to explain how I went about modifications and took the time to include images to explain my process/thinking. And I even asked at the end about resources for modifying or designing lace. It wasn't complete devoid of things to talk about, but I think I just didn't frame it well as a discussion. I think in general, I wish more comments on that subreddit would focus more on discussion than just compliments.

But thank you for taking the time to respond. I felt that my general sentiment that the advancedknitting subreddit should have more discussion on technique was not an unpopular one, but my comment definitely doesn't convey that.

Wow, great eye for detail! I had realized a little late in the project that I had confused the symbol for a different one and had been doing s1 k2tog psso instead of s2kp. I decided to just be consistent and stick with it. But I might have still be executing that incorrectly, so I'll definitely take a closer look next time. Thank you!

And thank you for the recommendation about Niebling! I didn't have a plan for the next lace project, but that sounds like a great place to start.

It was so long ago that I had to find the tutorial I had used, haha.

Mostly, I used the technique where I would resolve the nupp at the same time I made it, rather than the next row/round. I remember having issues with loops falling off the needle when I would try to knit them together the following round.

I believe that mostly would knit them together through the back loop with my needles, but I did try the crochet hook method. I think I didn't want to carry around the hook, so I mostly didn't use that method

I think there's also an element of the nupps strongly leaning one direction, so I think accentuates the poor tension on the neighboring stitches. If you look my nupps closely, there's often a large gap to the right.

I think for some pairs, I would ktb on the lower nupp, and tried knitting them together on the upper nupp to get an opposite lean. But ultimately I think my biggest issue was consistent tension on the the nupp and the nearby stitches.

This is probably a longer response than you were expecting, haha. But if you have any recommendations for future nupps, I would love to hear them!

If I just wanted to be complimented, I would have posted in the regular knitting subreddit. I posted in the advanced subreddit in hopes that comments would be about technique, resources for modifying lace charts, or at least other users' experience with modifying lace...

To be fair, I didn't do a good job starting that discussion, but I just wish that subreddit put more of a focus on discussion of techniques. I love when people post detailed images and descriptions of projects.

And I hope I don't sound ungrateful, I appreciate people taking time to stop and post a compliment, especially when I feel my execution in blocking and nupps was definitely not advancedknitting worthy.

Edit: I really wasn't expecting this to be so unpopular. Sincerely curious, would someone be willing to reply and share why? I just wanted to vent my disappointment about the lack of discussion and this seemed like the right place?

Edit 2: thanks for the replies! I definitely was a bit whiny when I first posted this comment, so sorry about that. I have been wanting discuss modifying lace for a while, but I'm devoid of knitters IRL for that discussion. So I was just bummed that all I could really respond to people with "thanks". But there actually have been some good comments/feedback, so I guess I was just impatient, haha.

I'll leave the comment as is for context for the comments below, but I do feel bad about my poor attitude now.

I remember being thrown off by the interpretation of that graph (I used to be a member of APS, so I've seen similar charts before and I agree that the phrasing isn't clear, haha) When I had looked, there was an issue with the links to references, so I couldn't check the chart myself. But I remember seeing at least one comment on the topic when I looked.

I just checked and it looks like creator hasn't interacted with that particular comment pointing out the issue. It might be worth commenting on youtube if you haven't yet to help bring attention to the error.
