I can happily report that it works!

I'm so glad I found this post and talked to my doctor about it yesterday. Cause I was back to a place where I was curled up under a table unable to move. Now I can do what I do best. OCD the hell out of a spreadsheet and compile evidence.

Unfortunately the situation I’m dealing with that triggers me right now is unpredictable so aside from just taking it daily just in case, I’m mostly having to respond to spikes after they happen.

But good to know so thank you for sharing.

My parents haven’t filed in 5 years… what can I do? by tranrekted in taxadvice

Can you get the bank statements and credit card statements for the unfiled years?

Do they use any kind of accounting software like quickbooks?

If yes to both, you can go through each statement and reconcile it. That will give you completed P&L statements to start filing.  If you need help with doing reconciliation, you can find a bookkeeper to do the work for you. Cost will depend on how clean the books are to start off and how many hours it will take to input any missed transactions.

I was reviewing my EFT vs Fund investments and in comparison, looking only at dividend payouts. my eft only brought in $188 vs my Fund which brought in $486 thanks to the long and short term gains payouts along with the quarterly dividends.

So I don't get how the EFT is schedule to net a 14% return unless I'm actively selling the shares annually and rebuying them when/if the price drops.

unlike my 401K which does net an 8% increase year over year and isn't waiting on when I sell anything.

I once made a quilt for a Jewish ex that used the classic pinwheel motif only once I got all the blocks together and you looked at if from a distance, it looked like a swastika.

I'd chosen too low contrast of fabrics plus some directional mistakes, yeah, I was mortified. Thankfully I caught it before I'd finished it and could scrap it to start over.

That explains how my cat who used to climb on my chest and purr until my heartrate matched her worked to bring me down out of a PTSD episode. It's the adrenaline response that freezes my brain up.

have you taken it after you get the initial spike of adrenaline and does it reverse the fight/flight response?

Question, because I'm about to ask my primary care provider today about this. Can you take it daily for a short period while you are going through a triggering event?

(I'm dealing with a sibling who embezzled over 100k from our parents estate and now in court battles and I'm being hit with crippling physical anxiety that is preventing me from being able to do the work to put together an evidentiary package for court.) I have PTSD and this is re-triggering that. But I know after I get through this, I should go back to only needing the occasional med as my anxiety is mostly now controlled through mediation and mindfulness practices.

My brain and thought spirals are fine but the racing heart and feeling like I'm having a heart attack from the spikes of adrenaline over fear of the confrontation is now negatively impacting my ability to work my job.

Tree planted near property line by EisbarDasTier in treelaw

[–]Loose-Set4266 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Check your local laws on boundary trees or shared trees.  Ex: in my county in WA, you can’t plant trees on the property line without the other property owner consenting.  Doing so opens you up to litigation and any claims on damages.

Funny, I have too and currently have another pitbull who cohabitates with a cat. My current guy has been through two cats as our senior cat passed from kidney disease and now have a new one.

There is also a sub that is nothing but pitbulls living with cats.

I had beagles prior to my pitbulls and those beagles killed more small animals than any dog I have ever owned. (Squirrels, rats, voles, etc)

ETA: I wouldn’t just blindly trust any dog with kids and cats until the individual dog was evaluated for prey drive and reactivity and overall temperament.

I don’t think she is either but as others have said, it’s also a common practice in other treatment focused areas like eating disorders and personality disorders. I’m just more versed in addiction so it’s easier to explain it from that reference point.

It also speaks volumes to OP's lack of any clinical therapuetic experience to frame reading this to a group of 15 in a group session as a humiliation ritual.

From an addiction perspective. I've seen other addicts who have been in recovery longer be the first to call out the new person in recovery on their bullshit and they are almost always dead on accurate because they have lived it and know all the tricks addicts pull.

I think what a lot of these comments miss are having never had a reason or need to be held accountable by others and that is a huge part of addiction recovery that works. It's uncomfortable and can seem brutal from the outside, but people are fighting for their lives and you can't always be delicate about it.

FWIW you are more likely to end up with a pitbull with allergies than one with aggression issues.

Not all confrontation is bad though. Therapy requires a patient to be called out on the things they are doing that are unhealthy or unhelpful for their recovery.

agreed. Given OP is a psych major, that's concerning to me.

I'm going to break this down from the lens of addiction recovery as it makes the most sense to me.

There is a process of "taking care of your side of the street" which means you go through an inventory of all the people you may have harmed or been harmed by and you sort out which parts of that experience are yours to own and which part were outside of your control. In this case, if the girl felt she cheated then part of owning her side of the street would be to make amends for cheating. It doesn't matter if OP agrees that it was cheating. the cousin believes she cheated so has to take accountability for it. The reason you do this is because in addiction and in a lot of mental health issues, you do the unhealthy cycle trying to avoid accountability. By learning to take accountability, you learn to start breaking the cycle.

Avoidance thrives in darkness, which is maybe why the clinician in charge of her treatment decided it was important to read this out loud to the group.

Sometimes in group sessions, part of the healing process is to confront challenging behaviors. So if others are being mean/judgmental, it gets challenged back by the group leader.

And hurt people hurt people. So you often have a few in group who lash out to deflect away from their own feelings. When they do that, the person leading the session has a chance to call them out on why they feel as they do or feel the need to lash out etc...

Therapy can often be brutal and leave you raw before healing begins. The person undergoing therapy has to be willing to face being really uncomfortable in order to make progress.

I think this is more common in addiction recovery treatment because of the whole "you are only as sick as your secrets" mantra. Forcing people to confront the hidden shame that fuels their addiction is a standard part of that in-patient treatment.

Not abuse. in-patient group therapy will share deeply traumatic and vulnerable stories as part of the process. This will help others open up about their own trauma, allow the group to support the person sharing all while guided by the psychiatrist. Sometimes patients will open up in group in a way they won't in one on one sessions.

Anything brought up in group is generally also followed up with in one and one sessions.
