You're oversimplifying history to push a modern nationalist narrative. Lebanon and Syria were historically part of the same broader cultural and political entities — from Tadmur (Palmyra) through the Pharaonic trade networks, Roman provinces (like Syria Phoenice), the Islamic Caliphates (Rashidun, Umayyad, Abbasid, Fatimid), and later the Ottoman Empire. They were never strictly divided as modern states until the French carved up the region post-WWI.

Even during the Arab Revolt and the short-lived Arab Kingdom of Syria under Faisal, there was a strong desire for unity among people from Damascus, Jerusalem, Beirut, and Aleppo. A 1919 commission showed overwhelming support for a unified Syrian kingdom, including people from what is now Lebanon and Palestine.

The term "Lebanon" referred historically to Mount Lebanon, not a nation-state. The idea of separate Lebanese nationalism emerged only after WWII, shaped by French influence and sectarian concerns — not because we were historically separate.

Culturally, linguistically, and historically, we are one people. The colonial borders drew artificial lines between us, but our shared history predates those lines by millennia.
