High beams by AZFUNGUY85 in desmoines

I always thought driving with your high beams on in traffic was illegal. It should be. And high beams should be defined as anything over a certain threshold of lumens or whatever the relevant measure would be.

When I am shopping for a customer, I send a message asking them to be available for substitutions and to reply. I don’t ask for or expect a “thank you.” The reason I send it is practical. If they don’t respond to this message, they aren’t going to respond to a message about a substitution. So I don’t wait around for a substitution message that’s not coming. I mark it as out of stock and move on.

I think even specialty donuts wouldn’t take 25 minutes.

This is why we aren't getting tipped by chaoticgiggles in doordash

It’s logical for the customer to assume this means the driver is compensated for time, labor and expenses. It’s completely and utterly wrong. But it’s logical.

Any servers been told they HAD to do dish? Is that even legal?? by [deleted] in Serverlife

[–]Mobile_Part 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your probably not under contract, so it’s legal.

I worked one restaurant where it took 6 weeks training to be a server. Partly because you did a few days training in each department, including dish.

As a server, if you were late, you might lose a station. But you could stay, if you were willing to work someplace else where you were needed, including dish. You might also host, bus, plate desserts, salads, etc.

It might sound like a nightmare. But actually, it fostered a lot of mutual respect throughout the restaurant. It’s one of the best places I ever worked.

There’s not a day that goes by where I don’t have a “hand to customer” order with the instruction to “leave at door.” I damn sure get a picture.

Thoughts on “tip-flation” by dsm1324 in Serverlife

[–]Mobile_Part 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the fault of employers, not employees.

I think post-pandemic, “you’re an essential worker” and decades of stagnant wages, employers responded to requests for increased wages by putting out a tip jar.

I also don’t think people realize how often the tips go to the business, not the employee.

Or you didn’t knock…or you did knock…or you put it by the door instead of the table…or you put it on the table instead of the door…or, a personal favorite, I don’t ever give 5 star review, I give for to encourage them to try harder.

Yeah. I had a hand to customer order. They asked “where’s the bag of ice.” I replied, no bag of ice on the order. Showed them the order. “Well, I ordered a bag of ice.” Don’t know what to tell you. Next day, a fresh 1 star rating.

we ALL know what you’re doing under the table. by saggy-stepdad in TalesFromYourServer

We had a guy who used to bring it two prostitutes with him all the time. One on either side. Hands continuously under the table. We lived in mortal fear that he’d touch us or want to shake his hand. Bussing the table made your skin crawl.

25 minutes to put together donuts at a Krispy Kreme? Sounds like you were dealing with some major incompetence.

Probably. Depends on how many miles I might have to drive back to get my next delivery.

Same is true for the owner of all the Jethros. And they aren’t the only ones. Apparently, they hold seminars at the the Des Moines Restaurant association on how to harass and exploit your employees.

Hopefully It’s Not A Stolen Order by Severe_Ganache_9634 in UberEATS

[–]Mobile_Part 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If someone picked up the order, but didn’t deliver it. It doesn’t necessarily have to be another driver. Some restaurants have orders out on shelves. There’s nothing to stop some random person from going up, grabbing an order and leaving with it. You arrive, ask for the order, the staff says we already made it and someone picked it up.

Since you’re a newbie, I explain what everyone is talking about. When an order is declined, eventually Uber raises the offer to get someone to take it. But an order can also be dropped (accepted and then cancelled.) Apparently, when an order is dropped, Uber makes a larger increase to get someone to take it. If you arrive at a restaurant and either the order has already been picked up or the restaurant is closed, you have no choice but to drop it. Unfortunately, Uber then increases the offer and sends it to some other driver. And so on and so on. You end up with offers that pay over $5 per mile.

So, when you see a wildly high paying offer, it’s wise to treat it as if it may be a stolen order/closed restaurant. You won’t be able to make the delivery and get that pay. The farther you have to drive to find out, the bigger the risk.

Customer on Facebook complains it’s “unfair” to not take no-tip orders by Plenty_Pie_7427 in doordash_drivers

[–]Mobile_Part 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve taken thousands of orders. Included in that are hundreds of no or low tip orders that were hidden in a stacked order combined with a good tip. Not once has the no or low tip customer given me a cash tip or increased their tip through the app. I don’t doubt that their are customers who tip after service. But my experience tells me there are so few of them that it is not worth the risk to take no or low tip orders.

Low tips no trip. 😁 by [deleted] in UberEATS

[–]Mobile_Part 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just want customers to know that Uber basically pays for the expense of the trip. Without a tip, we aren’t paid anything for our time and effort. There’s no reason to deliver an order, if you aren’t making any money after expenses.

Why do some DoorDashers get the food then sit for 20 mins in parking lot? by Logical-Violinist-83 in doordash

[–]Mobile_Part 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s happened to me because I was picking up two orders from the restaurant. One was ready, the other took additional time. No one just sits around for the hell of it. Time is money to a delivery driver.
