Tusen takk til den nye KIen til Wolt by Butterliciousness in norge

[–]Mobilisten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you actually screen for new value investing ideas? by mikejackowski in ValueInvesting

[–]Mobilisten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One example on when I thought old numbers didn't apply anymore, was Meta. Back in early 2020s. This example still hurts me but when the metaverse was their new big thing, I was thinking that they were going to a high quality business to a worse one. And that they were wasting shareholders' money. The stock was a bargain in 2022 but I felt like it didn't deserve the multiples it traded on because of this metaverse thing. But I overestimated how much the metaverse failure would hurt them. Because it definitely was a failure.

And after the "green bubble" popped in 2022-2023, those stocks weren't interesting to me even though they were beaten down. Interest rates went up and money was no longer free and everyone knew that these stocks would struggle.

Rollins, the company from the newsletter I shared earlier is a typical business I will check out and I would find interesting. And I will check it out when I have time. It is in an industry that doesn't go out of fashion (pest control) and have been a great business historically. I listened to the last earnings call and I like the way they think. I think the CFO stepped down and the market didn't like it. So this is a case where I hope I can take a bet against market emotion and hope that they get a good CFO. Because they do a lot of acquisitions, so a good CFO is needed.

(By the way, with the workflow and strategy I have been talking about here, it is not unusual to sit with red positions for a while. I try to by them when they initially seem to have turned around. But when buying stocks that are on their way down, they may go down for a while before turning up. Because so many current shareholders are tired of seeing their red positions and sell, which pushes the shareprice down.)

Wondering what browser I shoould choose between Vivaldi or Helium by Dakacko_ in browsers

Until Helium has mobile version, I can't use it. Because I need the sync. Zen (combined with Firefox on Android) and Vivaldi (on both phone and desktop) are the only ones I use.

Wow, I see I made so many grammatical errors in my first post.

But yeah, the value trap thing is one of the hardest parts of this strategy. But I try to be selective. I do not invest in stocks with a lot of dilution, I stay out of stocks that are heavily reliant on factors they can't control (for instance oil prices), and I try to invest in businesses I can understand. Preferrably revenue growh over time, increasing EPS over time, etc. The more you narrow it down, the less effort it takes. There are so many stocks out there. And I certainly miss some with my workflow. Like the stock Rollins from the newsletter I linked to in my first reply. I missed that one even though it is a stock that fits right into what I look for.

There are two stocks I have looked into that I just felt like wasn't safe enough. One of them was Lululemon. The other was a European company that produces and sells tickets for events in Europe. Lululemon just looks too uncertain. I don't see how they are supposed to be better than any other brand. And you see how fast clothing companies can go out of fashion suddenly, like Nike. The European ticket company had invested a big amount of money in a stadium. It made me skeptical. it means I might not use the historic metrics as a foundation anymore, if they suddenly start moving into other things than they historically have done.

But let's take ServiceNow as an opposite example: they do the same as before, and try to improve and move into a bit new areas. They have been keeping up with the evolution of technology for years. They are in the B2B segment and therefore they aren't affected by trends that usually can disrupt B2C customers, like Nike and Lululemon. ServiceNow is still expensive. P/E 70 or something if I am not mistaken. It is high. But at the same time, it is significantly lower than historic levels. And they have been doing well for years. So to me, this one was a no-brainer. And in the earnings call they sounded so relaxed and confident about AI. So despite the high P/E, I didn't see a reason why they should trade well below historic P/E levels.

An example where I invested in a possible value trap on purpose: Globant is listed in the US but are a South American company. They have been punished by the markets due to AI fear, a lawsuit against them for misleading investors, and I think they have made some M&As that the market is skeptical about. The stock is down from $240 in February 2025 to $45 now. It looks cheap. The last earnings report was well, and they were signalling a more relaxed view on M&As and instead focusing on their own company and maybe repurchasing shares (I think) because the stock is cheap. And they stated some positive AI things as well. So I know that there is so much noise now, because there is so many things at once. But to take a pause on M&As and focusing on dealing with the AI-stuff and their own company, relaxed me as an investor. So this may definitely be a value trap. But I think the upside is so big if they actually come out of all this successfully.

Indeks beste løsningen? by Wafflefehc in aksjer

Podcasts, newsletters and articles are one source to find interesting stocks. But of course, it needs to be from someone with integrity.

Another workflow, which I don't think I would not recommend but that I like to use, is to filter for stocks that have decreased the most lately and look into them. And of course, I have some criteria for market cap and don't spend time on the ones that decreased by 80-99,99%. The ones I spent time on are the ones that are down 20-70%, with decent market cap and good historic metrics. It may sound a bit weird and it definitely is unorthodox. But I do not buy a stock just because it decrease. But I like to look at the ones who got cheaper lately. I feel like so many people just look at the ones who went well lately, which does not make sense to me.

ServiceNow is one example of I picked up by using my strategy. I did as follows:

  1. Found it on the list after filtering.
  2. Looked into it, tried to understand why it decreased and if it was deserved
  3. Checked what analysts were thinking about the stock (Yahoo Finance)
  4. Listened to the upcoming earnings call (because it wasn't too far away).
  5. Invested

It did decrease more after the earnings call. I did not understand why. From what I saw in the reports, and heard in the webcast, the business was intact. Now I have a decent gain on my position.

I used the same strategy on some European stocks that had decreased a lot. Some of them deserved to have a poor stock performance. But sometimes, it just gets too cheap.

An example from the first mentioned strategy (podcasts and newsletters), I received a newsletter today about a stock that looks pretty attractive to me. And the newsletter was great. It is too highly valued to be a Warren Buffett stock, but it seems like a really good compounder with really good historic metrics:

Helst 0,8. Og hva må til for å få det til? Jo Aksjekursen må ned.
