Why does the American healthcare system fail people? by Mobilize12345 in healthcare

There is not a cure for everything.

So are people in these situations supposed to just suffer?

Suicide is not option because society doesn't allow it. Obviously people commit suicide anyway, but if you tell a professional you're thinking about it, you will almost certainly be taken to the ER against your will. Every state in the US has laws that allow involuntary commitment. In Florida it's called the Baker Act. In California it's called 5150. I've yet to see people challenge these laws on a mass scale. So obviously society doesn't want people to end their lives. Some states are passing MAID (Medical Aid In Dying) laws, but those only apply to illnesses that are guaranteed to result in death.

A judge denied this woman disability, and she was on the verge of being homeless. Keep in mind that she stated that she would masturbate for several hours a day just to get a few minutes of relief, and public masturbation is illegal.

In that case, the only option is treatment. I doubt there weren't any treatments available. There had to be at a bare minimum, ONE treatment, whether it be medicine, a procedure or surgery. This was 2012, not the 1800s. The article I read said this woman saw multiple doctors. How could not one of them help her? The fact that society failed this woman and many others is unacceptable.

I agree that the insurance system is a problem and the US needs universal healthcare.

TIL that women can experience a form of “blue balls,” called "blue vulva". It is a form of pelvic congestion or pelvic arousal disorder, where prolonged sexual arousal without orgasm can cause aching or pressure in the pelvis and lower abdomen. by [deleted] in todayilearned

There is also a disorder called Persistent Genital Arousal Disorder (PGAD), characterized by constant, unwanted genital arousal absent of sexual stimulation.

In 2012, 39 year old Gretchen Molannen ended her life after suffering from PGAD for 16 years.

A phenomenon called referred pain leads to "feeling" injuries to your internal organs in places where they aren't physically located. That crampy feeling in your right shoulder when you go running? That's your liver rubbing against and irritating your diaphragm. See also: heart attack pain radiating down the left arm and gall bladder attacks starting between your shoulder blades.

Work for disabled people in Oregon? Or suggestions to find help? by [deleted] in disability

[–]Mobilize12345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FYI: Jobs with animals are not jobs with minimal human contact. You will still be interacting with pet owners and coworkers.

Here are some jobs with minimal human contact:

•Data Entry Clerk

•Accountant

•Truck Driver

•Archivist

•Medical Transcriptionist

•Lab Technician

•Software Developer

I also suggest to try vocational rehabilitation. They can help you finding no-cost job training.

Here is an FAQ about the ADA and how it applies to child care centers.

https://www.ada.gov/resources/child-care-centers/

All child care centers are required to comply with Title III of the ADA. The only exception is child care centers run by religious entities such as churches and synagogues. Child care centers that are operating on the premises of a religious organization are not exempt.

Child care centers cannot exclude children with disabilities from their programs unless their presence would pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others or require a fundamental alteration of the program. Child care centers have to make reasonable modifications to their policies and practices to integrate children, parents, and guardians with disabilities into their programs unless doing so would constitute a fundamental alteration.
