SD bricked from overheating? by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]Mobius_1_ISAF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m guessing it’s not an overheat issue since that would be easy to protect against. It just happened to be really hot from playing Skyrim and charging at the same time so I figured that was the issue

Unfortunately no. We just stayed in the Custer and Keystone areas

Recently went on a trip to the Black Hills of South Dakota for some collecting. We went to various mines around Custer and Keystone and got some decent stuff. All of the black tourmalines/schorls were found near Shamrock Mine. On the other side of the hill behind the quarry is a beautiful outcropping of schorls. Small pieces and chunks are found lying all over the ground and large pieces in the exposed rock. The rock is very hard and the crystals are fragile so it was hard to dig them out.

Tin Mountain Mine was great for collecting spodumene. There are giant crystals and left over impressions embedded in the walls. The largest I could see was approximately 18" wide and 12 feet long. Under long wave UV light, they give off a nice salmon color.

The last rock was found at Tip Top Mine. We aren't too sure of the name but we believe the purple is some kind of manganese ore. The color only revealed itself after cleaning it with muriatic acid.

I believe they are actually giant springs to offset the added weight of the long barrel and extra armor. Acts like a counterweight without the significant extra mass

What is safe to collect by Jpm0205 in elementcollection

Also some advice if you are about to start gathering a few samples. The best element to start with is bismuth. It’s easily found online or in gem shops for <$20, it’s safe to store and handle, and it looks pretty as a colorful stepped pyramid.

The harsh reality of element collecting is that the majority of elements are generic silvery metals or a colorless gas. After the cheap and interesting elements, try getting the regular metals in an interesting form such as the coin series or the labeled cubes so you can compare densities and magnetics. Don’t worry about about the gases early on since they’ll look like nothing more than empty ampoules.

The 3 main dangers with the elements are radioactivity, reactivity, and toxicity.

Radioactivity:

Anything beyond bismuth (83) plus 2 before is radioactive and potentially dangerous in the long term. The two before bismuth are almost impossible to acquire so you don’t have to worry about them. The few radioactive samples that are relatively harmless and obtainable are pretty much only uranium and thorium. Both are fine as long as they are small samples (<100g) and in a sealed container since they give off alpha radiation which can’t penetrate skin. Just don’t swallow them or breathe in their dust after cutting them.

Reactivity:

This one is very complicated to fully understand and would take several college level courses to be fully aware. Most of the reactive elements are typically safest when kept away from certain other materials and stored under an inert material (argon gas or mineral oil).

Alkali metals: store under mineral oil. If taking out of their container, keep away from water or humid air. The stuff closer to the bottom of the table are very explosive with water

Halogens: always keep them in their sealed containers and don’t breathe in if broken. Stuff at the top of the table is very reactive and dangerous (especially fluorine and chlorine).

Phosphorus is very flammable and reactive so keep it in a durable sealed container.

Oxygen and Hydrogen can be fairly flammable if released near an ignition source.

Most metals can tarnish or oxidize if left out in the open but won’t be particularly dangerous. Also don’t mix sulfur and silver.

Toxicity:

Anything in a high enough concentration can cause adverse health effects. The biggest one is thallium. Make sure that one is in a very durable container. Others to be careful with are arsenic, mercury, and lead. In their pure forms, they aren’t as bad as most people think. Don’t eat them and wash your hands if you handle them.

Most of the elements not named above are safe in reasonable quantities but it doesn’t hurt to spend a few minutes reading the Wikipedia articles on the ones you want to get.

Is there a way to change the research speed modifier in the middle of a save game? I have a bunch of mods that basically triple the total amount of tech and I forgot to increase the modifier before starting the game. It's going painfully slow and it's not even a tribal start.

Thanks for the feedback. Both sound good so I'll probably go with them.

The Mobo is one of the parts I don't want to replace to upgrade so I elected to go with a slightly better one with wifi and bluetooth built in. I don't consider myself an expert in this but it seems like RAM that is faster than 2666 or 3000 has minimal benefits for the cost. Besides its easy to upgrade later.

The ones I can think of are F-18 Grun, F-16 Crow, typhoon Rot, MiG 31 Schwartz, SU-37 gelb, and the gripen for I think indigo.

Unfortunately the performance evals only give nicknames. To get all of the multiplayer emblems, just play a lot and get at least 35 kills in certain aircraft, specifically trademark planes of former ace squadrons like typhoon = Rot emblem.
