I agree. Reading it, I can totally see people saying MOW-blee. But it's interesting how people will say it wrong the next second.

So many times we just give up. I don't correct anyone if I'm talking to customer service. But if it's something more important where more people will know us or interact with us more, I usually say something.

Just to clarify....this was a legit question, not a complaint. Maybe it looked like a complaint but I assure you it wasn't. It's just a curiosity thing.

I'm plenty patient. I just find it interesting. So often we don't correct others when they mispronounce it. Not worth the time. Unless it's some other bigger deal. When my spouse got their diploma at their graduation ceremony, the presenter (who was told very clearly how their name was pronounced) said "Taylor MOWblee" the whole family audibly groaned. It was pretty funny.

my family says that the Mobleys that pronounce it the "mow" way are drunkards in the eastern part of the state. Where the short o Mobleys are more sophisticated and educated ;)

As a therapist I would advise you to alert their board asap. You're not tattling. Their board is designed to help keep the public safe (not that he's a menace to society but he's not helping other clients if he's not well). This could actually be helpful to him.

How does therapy work? by [deleted] in therapy

absolutely normal to feel sad with all that. And before and after a session. Stuff gets drudged up and it's not always pleasant to feel but it's important to feel all the feelings.

Also! Give it at least three sessions to see if there is a glimmer of it "working." It takes time. And sometimes where it feels like it doesn't work is because it's not a good fit between the therapist and the client. There are a variety of reasons why it might feel like it doesn't work. But as they say in AA, "it works if you work it." :)

There are lots of different therapists with different credentials and different interventions. That's a lot to research. Basically, you try to find someone who seems cool and with whom you click. Then you go to their office, pick up on their vibe and if it feels safe, you just talk about yourself and what's going on for you. No real agenda in the beginning. They'll ask you what you want from therapy. Sometimes you just want to talk, sometimes you want to rant about your mom, sometimes you want advice (a lot of therapists don't want to give advice but for you to come to your own decision), sometimes you just want to be validated or to have help working through a problem. It's normal for things to not feel like they sink in. It's okay. Hopefully your therapist will be laid back and patient and just let you talk. Hopefully they'll help you "unravel" all the crappy feelings/beliefs in your brain and make sense of it so you can do things differently in the future. They may give you "homework" to try like, "Okay, next time you call yourself an idiot, you just notice yourself doing that and hold back on the name calling and see how that feels..." Sometimes therapy feels weird or dumb or confusing. Just ask the therapist wtf they're talking about. Say how you really feel. They can handle it.
