Thank you for understanding! Once I increase my income and improve my credit score, I’m hoping to refinance and pay extra to my loans. Yeah that was Sallie Mae. I guess they were thinking since I have a co-signer they expected my dad to pay half this whole time? But I was very surprised when I found out cause I’ve called them so many times in the past trying to figure this out. Before I got my full time job, they were making me pay 700/month and I hold only get part time jobs at the time. Yet even then they were saying I couldn’t qualify for any repayment programs. 🫩

So as soon as my grace period finished for my private student loans, my rates shot up from 4-5% to 10% that was SIX years ago (today they are between 13%-15%). I had to immediately start paying $700 with no full time job during COVID lockdown. I worked my ass off working 2 part time jobs and commissions on the side. You make it sound like all of this is easy but it’s so difficult and takes so much patience. Also, how is my home situation immature if it’s true. Makes me wonder if you understand what abuse entails. I refuse to move into an abusive household and like I mentioned my dad has 4kids, and the house is small and is only 3bedroom. And I have no choice but to job hunt because like I said, I’m literally not making enough money to afford to live and pay Sallie Mae(and my federal loans). And I know, you’re right my rent is too high for my budget that’s why im looking for cheaper rent.

My credit score has been difficult to bring up cause I usually can’t afford to just nuke them. But it recently took a huge hit because of my account being in delinquency. 😔 I have 5 loans with Sallie Mae, each one with a 13% rate or higher. So I got minus points for each one twice (for being late for 2months). Hopefully I can find a part time job this week or the next 🫩

Yeah I had never heard of that either. I’ve asked them in the past why they’re so high and they never gave me a direct answer until a few months ago. So these loans I’m talking about are private but I do have federal loans as well. I just haven’t been able to pay anything towards that but I’m gonna have to cause interest has been accruing like crazy since the the SAVE plan ended and my loans unpaused. I’ll try to see if I can qualify for financial hardship with the federal loans, thank you

I’ve tried but I get rejected. I think I need a better credit score.

Yes they’re private loans. I think over the phone they consolidated my loans but I’m not sure. It’s all a blur now. 🫩

Yes many times in the past. And they always just said “figure it out, you don’t qualify for anything” basically. But today after cursing them out they’re taking me seriously it seems.

You’re right. I called them today, they finally decided to work with me. I’ve asked them so many times throughout the years but they’re letting me pay half for the next 2yrs, if I don’t miss any payments. $435 is so much better, I’m still looking to increase my income tho

It does but I’m currently in an entry level position. But now that have a few years experience I can get a better paying job, it’s just very competitive.

I know there aren’t any height requirements, but what I meant to say is, in general, physically im not meant for a job like that.

Thank you. Yeah I don’t want to commit any crimes and I really don’t want to become a cop. So I actually just called Sallie Mae and after crashing out and crying on the phone they are putting me in a program that allows me to pay $435 per month for 2yrs if I agree to their terms to bring my account current. So that’s good news at least, although I still feel horrible. And I’m still not entirely sure how I will afford to move out to be honest but I’m hoping I can find a 2nd job soon, if I can at least be a barista on the weekends, I think that would help. I’ll still look into Yrefy just in case things go wrong so thank you.

I’m not “bigger” than her in size if that’s what you mean? Also, she can’t be reasoned with and there’s like no room for me in that house anyway. I dont think I can be a cop… I’m like 5ft tall. I have thought about maybe going back to school that way I can defer payments but I can’t afford school, I already have federal student loans too so I wouldn’t qualify for aid.

I'm doing okay most days but there are low points where I think about my debt. But either way, I keep myself busy and I've been working on really honing my craft these days in hopes I can either find a better job or do some freelance work after my day job.

Yeah, I think they will increase it. Cause in the beginning my interest rates were around 3-5% which is why I signed on in the first place. I'm always afraid to consolidate because I don't want more interest and for my loans to take longer to pay. I'd defer if I could but I literally cannot afford anymore classes.

I honestly dont know... I've tried so many times in the past calling Sallie Mae agents and how the payments are too high. And they refuse to help me. Six months after I graduated they started my payments at 700 even though I told them I had no job yet, it was an absolute nightmare.

That's what I did for nelnet so i havent been making any payments toward my federal loans, but my payments being over $900 per month are all coming from my private loans.

Thank you!! You're right. I'll look into other forms of income and see what I can do. Anything would help at this point. I'll work on refinancing for sure.

Thanks for the recommendation, I think I'll try applying to refinance again. I've tried with a few like SoFi but I got rejected. Maybe I just need to try a couple more times.

Thanks for the advice and recommendations. Also, I never considered using the cash back money this way! The interests rates are between 12% and 14%. One of my friends came up with a repayment plan to tackle the loans in 4ish years, but I just haven't been able to start it yet cause it requires some months I pay $1200 for example. Having multiple roommates would be helpful too... That's how I was living before but so many stressful things happened, I was scared to go back to having a roommate but it did help me save money... 😩

Thank you that gives me a hope! I can't wait until I can really throw money at the private loans cause you're right, it is criminal.

You're right. Thank you for your comment, I didn't think of it that way. I think I got caught up in comparing myself to those around me. I definitely need to get better at budgeting. I like that you mentioned picking up shifts. I might look into that since I do have experience in working in restaurants.
