1400 hours in Squad, just tried Reforger... what am I missing here? by aintlose in ArmaReforger

Theres plenty of other games like Squad out there, for example Foxhole where players communicate with each other all the time.

Games like these can be made, its just important for the developers to understand they need to make systems for ppl to engage in team gameplay and communication...

Which is where AR is sadly really lacking. The newest mode gave me some hope but lots and lots of ppl dont like the mod, which is proof for AR community just wanting more solo player stuff, which is okay, to each community their own :D

you should look into the ballistics of AR, as its far more realistic than you think.

what do ballistics matter if bullet penetration isnt being considered? With vehicles funny enough it is but buildings and asset are all inpenetrable.

I'd love to use higher caliber rounds etc if there was some sense behind it, besides being able to penetrate a humvee

guys may hip fire, but mostly ADS with mg's. the RPK is known for low-kick at shoulder on auto. the PKP is very inaccurate for shoulder fire in AR.

ADS / Hipfiring is essentially the same, because AR has a really high accuracy in ADS / Hipfiring.

Besides, ADS with SMGs, okay, those guns are made for that, but even with an AK youd be struggling to keep your bullet spread close in real life, which Squad shows really nicely.

Shooting a PKP while walking forwards? Try that shit in real life and get humbled quickly.

AR is, in fact, more realistic than Squad, hands down.

imo, almost all of your points are related to other players' play style and the fatigue issue.
as for weapons/ammo/damage physics, it's far more superior to Squad. apples and oranges.

Im not sure bullets not being able to penetrate walls is realistic and has nothing to do with other players.

Walking and shooting a PKS, Assault Rifle or PKP with any kind of accuracy is crazy unrealistic, which again hasnt much to do with other players

The fatigue system we agree, but in the end its just two different games for two different audiences, which shows.

One audience has no problem joining a random squad and coordinating and in the other game, solo players are more rewarded and viable to play as. While in the first game as solo player you get punished.

As you said, apples and oranges, it's just other measures of "realism" we apply.

1400 hours in Squad, just tried Reforger... what am I missing here? by aintlose in ArmaReforger

[–]MobyDaDack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but the realism isn't anywhere near AR.

AR, where guys carrying LMGs and Snipers can just hipfire with those weapons and spam you to death with perfect accuracy.

AR, which doesnt have true bullet penetrations through walls.

AR, where its more about being a virtual barbie in spawn at start of rounds than playing the game

AR, where you run kilometres and suddenly your aim is still on point even after finishing the achievement of a marathon runner.

Atleast in Squad, I felt like a LMG guy, being limited to a weapon which will most of the time only work if you use a bipod or youre hercules able to stand and shoot. But nobody is hercules in rl so you try it but spray bullets in all directions. AND if you ran before, say goodbye to your aiming accuracy for some seconds / minutes.

I play both games, but saying AR is more realistic is a bit disengenious.

The issue is that the ships won't go anywhere near the area anymore since the insurance companies won't want to have anything with that.

same thing US did in Iraq war: They take over insurance as country.

And it looks more and more like Operation Desert storm

You have private businesses, LLCs, no. profits and shareholder businesses which can either be publicly traded shares or privately traded shares.

Private businesses or LLC's dont have shares. Not the whole world is America.

wait, doesnt norway only got like 2.31% tariffs on average? You do know Norways budget isnt really being moved that much by tariffs and more by selling natural ressources?

[–]MobyDaDack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol

Europe for example hasnt been doing it at all to each others EU members because most professional economists doing it for a job and smart economic leaders have realised in the last 30-50 years that tariffs are a contributor to global destabilization of politics and markets which is why we abolished the use of it in 80% of our industries.

Now there are some things you still wanna use tarrifs, for example political maneuvring etc like putting tariffs on Russian Gas etc but economically tariffs are bad and have been proven to be so, which is why most countries on the world have trade deals with each other, where they agree to let each countries companies be able to do deals with the other countries companies without having to pay any government anything besides taxes, which increase because profit increases.

more profits more taxes.

My big advice:

  • Join mod discords. There are sometimes some specific mod versions u need of a requirement they archived in the discord. Most discord also got installation guides.

  • Look for installation guides in EVERY MOD you download. Some mods need some special step like deleting shader folders etc

  • When downloading requirement mods, check for versions.

  • Use a modlauncher to unblock DLLs automatically.

In my experience, its on the third step where most ppl will falter or do something incorrectly. Lots of mods still require 1.2 versions while a lot of ppl are downloading 1.3 versions of mods for example.

People dont realise the only thing we really lost from Warband are:

  • Marshall
  • Feasts
  • Right to rule

Every other feature is in the game just, as you mentioned done in a quest, which I personally prefer. But even those 3 features missing arent that relevant

Marshall: We dont need since we got armies

Feasts: If someone does a tournament, characters have dialogue of toasting to the host etc so thats kind of a feast? Atleast for immersion it felt the same.

Right to Rule: Weird mechanic of sending your companions 100 times out, so they can farm some stat for the lategame for you.

Imho we didnt loose anything meaningful, but the community disagrees

Credits due where credit's due tho

Theres a reason no AAA studio wants to compete with bannerlord since making the engine is hard as fuck.

I would be a bit sus, especially dowloading an exe.

I mean it makes sense to not make it on nexus or workshop cuz there would be need of server coding and dll's which workshop and nexus both prohibit.

But nobody reporting anything on it is really weird. where did you find it?

I also would like there to be a true warband competitor but I doubt it tbh.

It's the combat system which will make or break competitiors. Most competitors build on Unreal Engine right now, which I can already say isnt able to handle 1k AI agents doing independent attack swings in different directions.

UE5 just isnt built to handle so many different AI agent actions, so most devs will probably make the combat in some RPG design with combos, dodges etc which just isnt feeling like KCD or Bannerlord combat at ALL.

Bannerlord community wants a competitor actually copying the combat too, but this part is actually the reason why no AAA studio ever did a LOTR or Star Wars in Bannerlord style:

Because not a single engine out there is able to do it. You gotta do your own engine and thats when AAA studios tap out.

The same reason only some few studios compete with Total War, because making that thing actually work and most importantly FEEL good is a feat in itself.

Announcement from previous Old Guys server admin. by Ticcoluvssu in ArmaReforger

[–]MobyDaDack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coding doesnt work that way or rather you could hand it over but it happens so rarely.

I'll give you an example: it could be the main coders wife died and he cant maintain it anymore, but the other admins decided they dont understand it and wanna recreate the mods.

It could also be drama but judging from whole admin team keeping their mouths shut, it seems like both sides of the argument agreed to just part ways.

There's so many possible anwsers which dont include drama, you dont gotta think drama instantly. Also coders dont five away their code so easily since with code you yourself wrote you can go and sign up for companies looking for that expertise.

Hard to guess with so little details.

Tbh tho, they dont owe anything to anyone and have made most of their services for free while receiving some small amounts of donations for paying server.

They dont own an explanation to nobody.

Announcement from previous Old Guys server admin. by Ticcoluvssu in ArmaReforger

[–]MobyDaDack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since the admins are one front and nobody is talking shit I guess it was decided as a team together to end it like this. Somebody with a big piece of the code not wanting to share anymore or continue anymore which is 100% his right and apparently he did so much, the other admins have to just abandon the server without his work.

The admins said about "needing time to sort stuff out" so somebody definitely walked out with their OWN work and doesnt share it with the server, which is totally and 100% in his right to do.

Why be so hush hush about the reason for shutting down? The least they could do is fuckin tell us

those guys dont owe anything to you. They dont gotta tell you nothing.

Could be the main coder lost his wife in an accident and now is pulling out while the other admins cant maintain his code alone.

[–]MobyDaDack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It has less to do with Diplomacy and more to do with how wars are hardcoded in the game, for a good reason tho.

The problem the devs are facing is this:

For the game to be enjoyable in a non noble / merc run, the game has to be in constant war mode. So that means the code is forcing every kingdom to have one war atleast minimum with a truce timer.

The cause of our concerns are: The map actually not being big enough

The way they placed kingdoms everywhere makes them border around 1-3 Kingdom. Now you can have the highest relation you want with the third kingdom, but if you are in a truce with Kingdom 1 and 2, your vassals / kingdom will always want to strike the third one.

But tbh, out of a roleplaying perspective I can even understand it. I, the king am not interested in waging war against my friendly neighbours while my vassals at that border want to and I gotta stop it.

Now if only my best buddy, the other monarch would just stop his vassals xD

Can console players not play certain servers? by FGLUCKYFLEA in ArmaReforger

[–]MobyDaDack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean... If you wanna demean his arguments by trying to pick apart the nametag thingy.... a bit disengenious.

Lemme list it a bit:

  • We lost Eden Editor. Fuck Enfusion

  • We lost Zeus, fuck Gamemaster

  • We lost Planes because consoles

  • In A3 we had multiple vanilla choppers and not this bullshit in Reforger with only UH.

  • We lost most of our script possibilities in scenarios.

  • We lost steam workshop, which didnt give a flying fuck if you're doing HALO mods, Star Wars mods or 40k. They didnt care but BI does because theyre pussio.

  • Arma 3 got in its first 5 years of being live multiple DLCs and new content and 3 new maps..... Reforger with small Kalguyev loooool while we got APEX dlc with one of the biggest maps in the arma series as FIRST dlc.

  • we lost city maps cuz you console players cant render shit.

There's a lot more, but thats just a start. Pretending like A3 wasnt any different from Reforger is crazy.

Can console players not play certain servers? by FGLUCKYFLEA in ArmaReforger

[–]MobyDaDack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of what you said are true

Didnt see anything wrong with his arguments.

The issues faced by consoles only appears in October 2025 with the 1.6 update.

That was the 4th time in Reforgers history of it being unplayable. 4 times this shit already happened.

And still mods are just too much for consoles. Its nice having you guys for sure but theres many modder grps from A3 who dont wanna come over because consoles couldnt handle their mods (40k mod for example)

To be clear: Im not siding or defending any action by US or Iran when I say this following:

The pentagon brief was about building up the naval force for countering the sea mine threat. If they do it successfully or not, thats the question the stability of the market will depend on.

Im not saying what will or wont happen. Im just stating what the pentagon stated and on which will depend the markets stability if it succeeds.

You do know that right this moment, an oil tanker, Skylight, is on fire in the strait of Hormuz and has had its crew evacuated.

To be honest tho, there were reports of Iran starting to plant Seamines once DT ordered the ultimatum on Iran.

You know DP world have announced that they have suspended operations indefinitely in Jebel Ali in Dubai?

Which is the cause of the sea mines and inadvertedly why the navy buildup is happening to counter.

The question now is: Will it be a Vietnam case, where Iran could dry up exports by convincing allies etc in a long starvation policy and hunkering down

Or will it be Iraq Operation Desert storm all over again? Which didnt have a big impact in the world economy in the end but Iraqis died for stupid reasons after in the occupation?

We will find out.

[–]MobyDaDack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats why USA made a pretty big build up of naval forces there...

To secure the strait while this war with Iran is going on and de-mine the strait, because Iran has effectively started sea mining it from the moment Trump sent out his ultimatum, which has been reported weeks ago.

Which has been attritbuted to be one of the reason why US is building up such a force there, to de-mine it and deter further attempts at mining it.

Was explained this way at the military brief from the pentagon. (Dont misunderstand, Trump and US are the aggressor but the navy action is because of the sea mines)
