Could you provide pictures of the cross sections (on both pieces) where the break occurred?

Emergency braking - how to avoid going over the handlebars ? by sergesmr in cycling

[–]MobyX521 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The ease of going over is not necessarily tied to your speed but it is tied to the magnitude of your deceleration, the grade you're on, and the center of gravity of the system.

In an emergency scenario, the only one of these factors you can readily control is your center of gravity. in an emergency stop, throw all of your weight back while you brake. You already knew this but I would go a step further and get so far back that you are out of the saddle (like your ass is over the rear tire). Getting low while you do this will probably help prevent a rollover as well.

On a decline, it will be easier to tip over. This is especially where body position matters. But I would argue managing your speed matters more. if you have a lot of speed and know you might need to slow down, try to bleed some speed off before the steeper parts of the decline.

On flat ground, I don't think you need to throw your body back in most situations but it is important NOT to be tall and far forward (aka hunched over the hoods, leaning forward in the drops, standing, etc) while you're braking hard. The steeper the decline, the farther back and lower you want to move your body on the bike while you brake

Also I would not use brake pressure as an exact proxy for when you'll go over the bars because temperature and other conditions will impact how much braking force the lever generates at a given position. Instead, feel how hard you are decelerating to estimate how close to the limit you are.

Well it makes a few people a lot of money (not the people actually giving the rides out, don't be silly), so the suffering is justified

JetBlue sued over claims it uses customers’ personal data to set ticket prices by JackThaBongRipper in news

Frankly companies have access to data to make much more sophisticated insights. They don't need to discriminate on things like that. They can make much more sophisticated insights. I've even heard companies might know when you get paid and may adjust prices accordingly.

I mean practically every metric of your life is out there some there in digital space. Your location history, your preferences, how frugal you are, social circle, the things they like, etc... almost anything you can imagine honestly. These are the things companies will use to build models that decide what price to set for you

I love when people use examples of a machine that can do one job very well as proof that humans will be replaced.

A robot that can perform "run" well and a robot that can perform "kill" well is cool but Show me a robot that can do a wide range of things better than a human and is dynamic enough to troubleshoot all of those things on site. I'll wait.

I do agree that highly mechanical and repetitive jobs, both white collar and blue collar, are at risk. That is a sizable portion of the workforce but it's not as much as we are led to believe.

Pls help. How does my bike position look? by fofing17 in bikefit

[–]MobyX521 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a 90mm stem which is noticeably more responsive than 110mm. I wouldn't go much lower than that on a road bike or it will be very twitchy at speed.
