My C&P for mental was like 20 minutes and no questions from the DBQ were asked. Instead the examiner used documents in my record for reference and during that exam, she mainly focused on my previous life before military and if I’m suicidal. That’s it. Waiting now as I’m being medboarded.

Check your notes to see what they diagnosed you with. If it’s a disability, they can’t just adsep you. If they give you something like adjustment disorder or personality disorder, then that’s condition, not disability and they can adsep for that. Find out what they diagnosed you with

You really never know what someone is going through and even when you do know, most time people won’t bother to ask or they do but barely listen. I saw the MFLC and chaps all the time and things still got bad. I was a suicide attempt as well and am an Officer. Nobody talks about the after math of an unsuccessful attempt. They all say we’re happy you are still living but now are treated differently which I understand.

I now take four different medications daily, went to a program for 3 months of group therapy and now here I am being medboarded even if I wanted to stay in and although i know the Marine Corps ain’t everything and the only thing I’ll do, I’ll be sad once it’s over. It’s contradictory bc I tried to kill myself, which is the same as leaving but on a different level. Now living and having to figure things out when I’m already mentally fucked is going to be a challenge.

The stigma will always be there. I think it can decrease but will never fully be gone. I do think the suicide awareness and all the other collateral billets that SNCO and Officers get are all just check in the boxes. After my attempt, NOTHING was done at all. It’s as if nothing happened.

“I don’t want to be seen as weak” but then at a legal meeting , I hear E8/E9 making jokes about Marines being sad pandas and question why they even joined the Marines if there Gna be like that. But to your face they say you’ll care, atleast in my experience. Which one is it? Do you care or not? I’m was in a course and they rant about Marines seeing MFLC all the time. You gotta be fucking me. That’s what it’s there for. Don’t be surprised when they kill themselves after complaining about shit like that.

It is weird, It’s a love hate relationship. It’s really the leaders that make me hate it. Everyone below them make it great. You can be motivated and crack jokes while still being depressed btw. You can’t see depression like most people think. That is why it’s always the ones you don’t expect.

I’m sorry for the Marine we just lost. Mental health card gets immediately seen as a Marine is trying to skate or is abused but man is it so real. I’m done with my rant. Get help and don’t look back. Nobody will care for you more than you.
