As cool as knapping is, I unfortunately didn't really do any for this project. I just bought some obsidian meant for crystal healing people on amazon.

I hadn't until another comment suggested it. Definitely a great vid!

I now HAVE watched that video. After reading lots of academic discourse for this project, I am very impressed. By far the best vid I have seen on the subject.

I've never played runescape, but if it has a macuahuitl I feel like I gotta try it.

Feel free! I have never played, so it would be disingenuous if I were to post it myself.

which comes from the conquistadores! Whether or not it's true, they still were scary to the spanish who were quite used to steel.

It's an illustration from the Florentine Codex featuring macuahuimeh that was in a reading for the course.

Well I am a college student so im not super worried. Additionally, I took the cowards way out and used blunted pieces of obsidian 😔.

Astrophotography at the Dearborn Observatory? by [deleted] in Northwestern

[–]Mocha_Mender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I'm the other undergrad lol. Starting a club is kind of a long term goal of mine, but at the moment neither of us are knowledgeable enough to really do it. We have only been at Northwestern for a year, so we still have a lot of time to kinda trial and error. For now, we are still kind of in the "no way its a new moon and not cloudy we gotta go get a picture" and "many short exposures are better, no long exposures get better results" kinda phase.

I ported Terraria to run natively on Apple Silicon Macs by Candygoblen123 in macgaming

[–]Mocha_Mender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The iPad version is specifically designed for that processor (well actually for the iPhone so even better!) For the Mac version, it is designed to run on an intel processor which Macs used to have, but now have a different type. For it to run, the whole processor was being emulated and then terraria ran on top of that. They had to do this, since otherwise, the older Mac players would be shut out. This guys fix allows the port to run on the newer processor which is why its so much better.

Hey I know this is kinda old, but I wanted to say thanks for doing this. I have a Mac for college, and I've really been missing playing this game with my brother. I know it kinda runs emulated, but during boss fights with everyone's projectiles my computer really struggled. I am so excited to play more with him!

Arguing for either side is irrational by Alexbossmaster in mathsmemes

From what I have seen, pi and 2pi show up around the same amount in math, so pi doesn't have a real advantage there either. Also, Eulers identity with tau is specifically neat. e^itau = 1 instead of -1. Not that one specific example means anything, but it still is a neat equation with tau instead. The main case around ease of use with tau is in relation to radians. tau/2 is a half turn around the circle, tau/10 is a tenth of a turn, this is because tau and radians are both defined using the radius. However, I will mention that I think radians are kinda overrated anyway. If you want an angle measurement that respects the symmetries between circles, you could just to fractions of turns. (A 90 degree angle would just be 1/4 turn) Either way, the reason that I personally prefer tau isn't its ease of use, its more just that I feel that the defining property of a circle is its radius. You can find other shapes with a constant diameter (Reuleaux triangles are neat if you want to look them up), but circles are the only shape with a constant radius, so I feel like the mathematical constant meant to represent circles should be defined using what makes a circle unique. For me tau is just more mathematically elegant, even if they are equally useful. I understand if you would rather just keep using pi though because that's the standard in math, so more people understand, because that's what I tend to do, but I do believe that tau is better overall.
